Very good question. Whenever super comes up I think of how super funds lost so much money in GFC. People who had retired had to go back to work. So make sure you are happy with how the fund invests your money in terms of risk on share market versus, or opt for your own risk free investment like a term deposit.

Money is usually tight when living on one wage, we never topped up my super until I started working part time.

I am always thinking about mine as I have not worked now for 3 and a half years. Now I have had my 3 kids and will return to work soon. I hope I can make it up.

Funnily enough I thought of this a week or so ago (at 3am, of course). I rang my super fund, and they said if I get some extra cash here and there I can put it in. It does not have to be a set amount. Mine allow bpay, internet transfer or post office payments, so I would suggest give yours a call.

You can get some professional advice from your bank. They might work out a plan for you since you are not working.

This is a great question as I’ve never thought about this before I’ve been a stay at home mum for 7years an I’ve never done anything with mine now after reading this I think I might look into it a bit more.
