Just wondering what extracurricular activities would you do or have you done for toddlers?

  • Swimming , sport, play groups, or going to something like a painting class arts and craft classes

  • We’re looking to do swimming lessons or maybe a sport

  • My girl is 2.5 and I have her doing a fairy ballet class. She’s also done swimming in the past. I am wanting to get her into a martial arts class too but there is nothing local at the moment. Little athletics is another good one. Anything they can just have a go at and learn a bit of discipline will only benefit them and later if they decide they don’t like it then they can choose to quit.

  • Just playgroups and some free activities during weekend as carnival, fairs, parks.

  • Swimming, my girls have both been swimming since 2 years old and the best thing I ever did not to mention they love it and are still doing it at ages 10 & 8.

  • It depends on the age of your toddler. You can start drawing shapes then progress to other things, colouring in. You may be able to get books that you use a wet paint brush on a specially print and the colours appear. Some of the books are called “Paint with Water”. Friends of ours have one youngster who started having fun with that when she was about 2 1/2 y.o. after watching an older child do it. You can definitely take your toddler for swimming lessons if there is classes you can go to. A responsible adult must go in the water with the toddler until the age of 3 y.o. Naturally you have to hold your child 100% of the time for a few months, You may need to put rashies over the top of bathers because even if the water seems warm to you your little one may get cold quickly. One of ours went blue and had to be taken out of the pool before the lesson finished. Some don’t like their heads down in the water to start. I think it is they don’t like water splashing in or completely going into their ears. A lot of schools have Play Group either one morning …… or afternoon a week during school terms. At some schools it Is in the section used as kindergarten the rest of the week.

  • My kids didn’t really do extra curricular activities til they started school. Then they had netball, basketball, tennis, dance, swimming…..at different times, not all t together

  • Gymnastics, music swimming

  • Kindergym, play group, mother’s group. Sometimes places like Bounce or Flip Out have special sessions/lessons for little kids.

  • Yes, we did swimming as well. Think gymnastics, ballet, singing and dancing are great as well.

  • Highly recommend swimming – apart from it being an essential life skill, it is great exercise and helps to wear them out for a little bit! Then I would look for something where they are part of a group that gets to interact, like kindy gym or something – where they can start to learn interacting with other kids their own ages and teachers etc. Music is also another great activity as well if you have a local music group for kids the same age.

  • Swimming! My kids are 4 and 7 and didn’t do swimming early on and now I feel like we are trying to play catch up
