Hello!

I’m wondering if you could recommend a brand of a good top loader washing machine that you have, that is fairly new and if you would recommend it or not. I am looking at purchasing a new top loader (I know that front loaders get a good mention but I am thinking of a top, due to the fact that there is no bending involved). I need the machine to be around the 7.5 kg mark. Wondering what are good brands that are easy to use and reliable. thanks so much in-advance.

  • Not sure if they still make them, but I had a Hoover that lasted 27 years.

  • as scary as it sounds, our Samsung is awesome. Do not get a Fisher and Paykel, ours caught on fire!

  • We have a 5.5kg Fischer and Paykel. Had it since the beginning of 2009, so it will be 7 next February. No problems, still going strong, although getting a little loud of late

  • we have fisher a parkle smart rive with no agitator

  • My favourite appliance in my house is my Fisher Paykel washer. I really love it and would only buy a top loader as I find it more practical as I add clothing part of the way through its cycles. It has about 7 different water levels which I find very useful. Good luck with your choice.

  • Had a Fisher & Paykel one for 10 years and it worked great. Wore out eventually as they all do but would buy the same brand again if I was to go back to a Top Loader.

  • FYI Experts agree a front loader is better – cleans better and more efficient as it uses gravity to clean. Get a Bosch. Should last decades.

  • I had a Fisher & Paykel for many years and it didn’t miss a beat even with washing for triplets in cloth nappies! My ex still has it so it must be over 14 years old. I know you said you don’t want a front loader but I have had one now for 6 years (LG) and it uses so little water compared to the top loader. Also, when my back is bad my wonderful kids empty it for me. But when my back is fine I take the opportunity to do squats! I don’t often get time to exercise!

  • I have a samsung and I love it, best washing machine I ever had, ad t has glass top so I can watch hehe

  • I have an LG fuzzy logic, 6.5 kg, it doesn’t have an agitator in the middle, so I can fit a lot more in it, I have 3 kids and I still find it big enough. I really love it, only got it about 2 yrs ago. Would highly recommend!

  • Fisher and paykel are good.

  • Fisher and Paykel.
I have used this brand for over 20 years and hardly any problems. I upgraded at the start of the year because I wanted a newer bigger machine.
    Love it.

  • Thanks heaps everyone..have read all and appreciate your time and honest comments. Please feel free to keep them coming.

  • I have a Fisher & Paykal washsmart 8kg that is less than 18 months old. I definitely recommend. It washes well, not to noisy and easy to use. I can remove the centre of the wash well for bulky items like doonas or to clean any built up lint. I had a fisher&paykal previously that also worked well and lasted 10yrs. Hoping this one lasts well too

  • i personally think that the simpson brand is the best for washing machines no matter what weight size or model i go for a simpson every time now i have tried a few others and regretted it

  • i have a front loader. my mum has a simpson that has lasted for ages and she only up-graded hers because she needed a bigger one. but in saying that, they don’t make ’em like they used to

  • I have a haier (may of mis spelt) it works so well and didn’t cost me to much. Cheap to run all year round 🙂

  • I have LG Top Loader and so does a friend of mine. She has had hers for at least 8 years and does the average of 2 loads a day. I love the fact that you just push the buttons to the settings you want. No agitator and washes clothes without having to add too much laundry detergent. I find if your clothes aren’t too dirty you don’t need as much detergent as listed on the containers. It is also very waterwise. Previously I had a Simpson Washing Machine with an agitator. I had to turn the dial to the position I needed to start it – not good if you have a weak wrist due to a fracture a few years before. I also found the filter at the bottom if it was not very strong and replaced that section a few times over the 12 years that we had it. It wasn’t emptied after every load unless it had a lot of lint in it but It was emptied each washing day. It suddenly decided to take in rinse water then stop. It finally decided to spin and empty the water 2 days later. In the mean time a neighbour very kindly rinsed and spun them out for me in her machine as it had sheets in it. Another relative of mine has a front loader. At about 70 y.o. she says she would have a top loader next time. 1. You don’t have to bend down to load and unload it. Unloading is worst because you are lifting wet washing which is a lot heavier than putting in dry ones. 2. If you miss putting something in, you can pause a top loader and put the extra item in.

  • I have an LG 7.5kg direct drive washing machine. I love it simple to use with touch buttons and also had an air dry feature great for the colder days getting the clothes fully dry on the line.
