Colostrum is a breast fluid produced by humans, cows, and other mammals before breast milk is released.
It’s very nutritious and contains high levels of antibodies, which are proteins that fight infections and bacteria.
It’s the first milk you get straight after your baby is born. It’s usually yellowish in colour and has great antibodies in it. It’s very important for newborns to get this first milk even if you are wanting to formula feed. Colostrum is usually present for about the first 3 days.
Liquid gold! This stuff is worth more than its weight in gold! gives bubs the head start! you may start producing it before the baby is born and if so you can store it in syringes to feed bub!
Colostrum is the fore runner of breast milk. In most mums to be it forms in the breasts during later pregnancy and becomes a concentrated source of antibodies giving the new baby a great boost to their immune system in early life.
