I’ve been fairly lucky in not having to deal with this issue much having a boy with somewhat short hair, but he has still had them.
I use a mix of 50/50 tea tree oil and cheap conditioner.
First I rub it all through his hair, then comb the whole way through, cleaning the knit comb between each use.
2 days later I do it again, and a week later I do it again to check and nothing.
Years ago as a teen I somehow got them multiple times and none of the actual headlice products would get rid of them. I remember that most of the products had tea tree oil in them, and would use conditioner to comb through my hair, so I decided to try it together, and BAM!! No more.
cheap conditioner – smother the hair and leave it in for about 15 minutes – thoroughly comb the hair – wash it out. tea tree oil is also good to spray to keep them away before they get them.
Nit Wits!
We get the spray bottle & it is fantastic!
It begins working almost straight away & has a pleasant scent.
We had tried so many different products & found that this was the only product that worked.
It is not cheap, but it is effective!
cheap condition put it dry hair untill damp and comb through
then once a week wash with tea tree shampoo
dont let children share hats or put hats in school hat box
Use Nutri-rich satin spray its quick and easy smells great and just comb as normal. Then wash out also gives the hair a treatment at the same time. http://www.nutrimetics.com.au/tracybaker
Tea tree oil has always been effective compared to the harsh and costly chemical alternatives. Conditioner is effective too; sit outside in the sun with a good lice removal comb and slowly go through hair. Good Luck!
please dont put harsh chemicals on your childs head more than once. i use 1 part tea tree oil, 1 part lavender oil, and 2 parts water, warm if necessary, pour through their hair from roots to tips. leave over night. then wash out with normal shampoo the next day, condition but leave conditioner in, then use a fine tooth/nit comb and comb through. re condition and comb through 7 days later. if they come back at all, you can use the oils as often as you like and the tea tree is an antiseptic so helps with healing the little bites quickly. i swear by this! it works!
Believe it or not…. Don’t wash their hair through the week. Infact, go as long as you can before washing. Sounds gross I know, but, lice love clean hair. Plus, the oils on the hair make it harder to cling onto. Good Luck with lice.
With all the products out there, I only use conditioner cheap one and put it through the hair about 3 times and then continue a few days after just once. Use a special comb as well. My daughter has really long hair and this works all the time. Yes it is time consuming but actually relaxing for them. Good luck
The best tip I can give you is that lice love clean smooth hair and hate any hair products!, so leave in conditioner, hair gel etc deters them. My daughter who had very long hair never got lice and I attribute it to the fact she used to be a dancer and used a lot of hair products. It worked for us, that is also why boys who use hair gel do not get Luce as they cannot attach themselves to the hair.
Treat and comb though with lice killer, then every day put conditioner in hair and comb through , gets the rest of the lice so saves on harsh chemicals and lice returning.
A very close friend swears by licener which is available direct from them on line or at special pharmacies and sold in Europe. it is supposed to be very quick and easy to use.
