Hello!

My son is 22 months, he only has his dummy at sleeps times and sometimes in the car but he’s started wanting it more and more. Is it best to just go cold turkey or wean him off it gradually?

  • I spoke to my daughter about being a big girl and if she wanted to transition by giving her dummy to the bin man to be donated to another baby. My daughter agreed and we took her outside and she popped it into the bin herself and watched the truck dispose of it. She did cry a couple of hours later but it didn’t last long.

  • for a few weeks before my daughter gave up her dummy we told her the fairy dummy is coming and we will need to leave her dummies out for the fairies and if she was brave enough to leave the dummies that they in return would leave her present. we did a box filled of little gifts. the first night was hard when putting her to sleep but we just brushed it off “silly billy you gave your dummie to the fairies” “they cleaning it and giving it to other little bubbas that dont have a dummy and need it” it ended up working a treat for.

my son didnt take as much bribing we said when is dummy broke again that there wont be any more dummies, sure enough it broke we gave him like the plastic backingbit of the dummy on the chain as he was used to fiddling with it when he went to sleep. but he never asked for it
