Hello!

We are going to Ballarat in October for a week with friends and will have children aged from 5 to 15 years. Am looking for suggestions of places to go that would be good for all ages.

  • I know this is an old question, but if anyone else is heading that way I would say definitely Sovereign hill both during the day and also the sound and light show at night is great. The Ballarat wildlife and reptile park is fantastic and Kryal Castle is also good. Just out of Ballarat is the fairy park at Anakie which I loved as a kid as well. Also “trash and treasure” the ballarat markets is worth a visit too :)

  • Kryal Castle is number one for younger (and older) children. It’s fun, interactive and has lots to see and do. Plus, who doesn’t want to visit a castle!
Sovereign Hill is also great (but pricey). But be prepared to skip some of the things you want to spend time at as the little ones might get a little bored. Brilliant place but loved going there without children as well as going with the kids.

  • google and check out trip advisor. they are a great site to use

  • I don’t know if you are a fan of Dr Blake’s mysteries or not. I am! :-) So I think I would do this walking tour! http://www.weekendnotes.com/doctor-blake-mysteries-walking-tour/
    What do you think? :-)

  • We loved the gold fields, educational yet fun at the same time

  • There is always Sovereign Hill, but for and kryal castle, botanical gardens but for some other events or places to visit i would go past YOU local infomation centre. I have found the people running these to be fantastic at helping you obtain some infomation about the local are and others in the state. On the way into ballarat i would also stop at one so they can give you more infomation about whats happening locally at that eg markets etc.

  • I remember the lolly shop at Sovereign Hill as being a kids paradise! :)

  • Sovereign Hill is wonderful for all ages.

  • Kryal castle. Sovereign Hill. The playground by Wenderee lake. Bowling. Enjoy.

  • I loved Ballarat when we took the kids there we visited Sovereign Hill Gold Museum make a day of this and the night show is not to be missed. ‘Blood on the Southern Cross’ is an explosive multi-million dollar sound-and-light show. (You can even stay there.) We visited the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka and Eureka Stockade. Spend another half-full day at Kryal Castle a medieval experience you will never forget. So much to do and learn about. A great interactive day out. Make sure to dress up there and have a family photo. Then you have the Tangled Maze where the kids can get lost! That’s just half the fun there is Putt Putt Golf and a Ice Skating rink there too. I loved my visit to Creswick Woollen Mills the kids loved patting the Alpacas. I bought the best Alpaca wool throw ever! If your into sailing the Ballarat Yatch Club holds learn to sail session using their equipment. Hubby loved this as did our teenagers. The food is great there too. The best Seafood platter ever! Hope you make many memories there as we did!
