  • My kids love a pinata cake. Make a cake, cut out the Centre and fill with lollies so when they cut it all the lollies come tumbling out.

  • My daughter’s favourite is chocolate cake so that is usually the base of many birthday cakes.

  • Sounds nice ! I think any cake will do. Depending on the age, cupcakes may be handy or I’ve even done freshly baked waffles with fruit and syrup/cream and almade also once puff pastry pockets with fresh strawberries mango and banana

  • Wow, my kids have had all sorts over the years. Neither is a huge fan of cake so I’ve had to be creative. Cheesecake, pavlova, ice cream cake even a chocolate self saucing pudding. Lol

  • My kids love fruits cake or cheese. Akr or sometimes pastry

  • Basic chocolate or vanilla cakes are generally liked by everyone.

  • There is a children’s cake recipe book which I think was published by Womens Weekly and there are a few others around. A friend of mine usually does her children and grandchildrens’ birthday cakes. I think she has made most of the book by now. If they are car fans you can decorate a cake by putting toy car/s on the top of it. Either wash them before use or put extra icing in those spots that you can remove.

  • I made my little son a snake cupcake cake for his 2nd birtjday, he had a reptile party. Nice and easy and really loved by all his little friends.

  • I made my child a monster truck birthday cake as he loves monster trucks. I just made a normal sponge cake, then decorated it. I just purchased a small monster truck to place ob top of cake sitting on a tim tam like it was going to jump over it. Was a huge success and my little man loved it. Not sure how i will top it this year.

  • I usually make a chocolate cake decorated according to my child’s age. This year I covered the cake in grated chocolate and cherries.

  • I just bake normal cakes and decorate them them With sprinkles starts and coloured icing. This year I’m going to be a bit more fancy.

  • I always ask my boys what type of cake they want. When they were little I generally make a plain chocolate cake and decorated it, but over the years it has changed to include ice cream cakes and even a donut cake one year.

  • I made different ones over the years. My son had a chocolate cake in the shape of a 1 for his first. Then he’s had a lions head, pool table, ice cream cake, pavlova etc
My daughter was never much into cake, so her 1st birthday was a chocolate self saucing pudding. She’s also had carrot cake, caramel slice, cheesecake ect
Depends on what they fancied at the time as to what I made

  • For my son’s first and second birthdays I made Betty Crocker vanilla cupcakes and decorated them. For his first birthday I looked online for inspiration to make Cookie Monster cupcakes and they were very affective. I used some ready roll black icing for circle shaped pupils and semi-circle mouth, White choc buds for the eyes and piped bright blue icing all over. For extra affect I used mini chocolate chip cookies broken in half and placed in the mouth.
His second birthday we were away for so I just decorated cupcakes with Thomas & friends flags and paper patty pans.

  • I made a butter cake for my daughters birthday. Her birthday is on the 27th December so this was an ideal cake I could make ahead of time and freeze and the defrost and decorate the day before. With a semi frozen cake it makes it easier to cut if need be too.

  • I made an ice cream cake and added chopped lollies to the slightly melted ice-cream as I made it, kids loved it, just put it in a silicone mound to set

  • My son wanted icecream cake for his birthday this year but generally I make either a Jewish cake or chocolate cake.

  • I make my special chocolate rich cake. Easy to make and everyone loves it. I will have to post it. I just change the pan size according to how many are coming. And they also make great muffins. The cake with the number 3.

  • I made a 4 layer fruity cake. I wanted it to be colourful, but didn’t have any food dye! Used mango for one layer, blueberries for another, strawberried for another and something else. Can’t remember off the top of my head. Also made for some interesting textures in the layers.
