Hello!

I had quite a traumatic birth with my first child and am hoping to make my planned c-section this time a much better experience. I have heard music can be helpful in theatre but I don’t know what to choose. I have searched online, but most playlists are for natural births and don’t seem right.

  • I didn’t have music, but if I had I probably would have chosen a playlist with all my favourite songs.

  • I was meant to have a planned c-section with my first, it ended up being an emergency one. At no point do I remember being offered music, even in preparation for the planned one. I found the surgery was over so fast and there was so much going on, I didn’t miss it at all. If you think it will calm you, fantastic, I’d go with a selection of your favourites. As much as I love my music, if I ever had another c-section, I would probably only worry about it in recovery not the theatre. Best of luck with the arrival of your bub.

  • I had no music playing at all. Didn’t have the desire to listen to music either.

  • A compilation of your favourite songs that make you feel good may be the way to go. This way it can be personalised.

  • I didn’t have any music playing but was happily listening to the banter of the two Dr’s

  • I didn’t use any music despite emergency c-section… somehow I wanted to be fully ‘present’ without anything to distract me, since I was worried how I would feel (and wanted to make sure I wouldn’t feel anything below the waist during surgery!). I did have my favourite songs going through my head on and off as the day progressed but music would have been a distraction. But I suppose if you are used to it all the time normally then go for it… perhaps something calming and instrumental.. maybe even classical although they have their rousing bits that I wouldn’t want during the procedure.

  • I would put together a playlist of music I enjoy listening to. As long as it takes your mind off things, it should help
