Hello!

My husband just told me our 5 year old was hanging out in the spare room with her dad, watching a movie when she said “Do you want to make sex?”. Like she was playing a game. I am worried about what to say. I know she has no idea what she is saying but I don’t want to get to when she is 13 and think I have given too much information, or not enough. I am really stressed about this – please help.

  • she is way to young. if it was a one off id ignore it.

  • I found by limiting the types of television shows/movies my children had access to, limited the questions/comments. Kids repeat what they hear on television, even if you don’t think they are watching it.

  • There might be an age appropriate book at the library that can explain things in her terms … Otherwise be honest and tell her that sex is for adults and mummy and daddy’s .

  • Hope you found way to work around this problem

  • Talk to her! But let her leaf the conversation so you’re not giving her too much information

  • That is horrible! did you find out where she got it from?

  • Wow – that would freak me out! I’d ask what she meant by that and where she had heard it.

  • That is a hard one. Hope some advice below has helped.

  • How did you end up handling it?

  • Find out if its from school?

  • How did you go with talking to your child?

  • I hope you have found some helpful suggestions here.

  • Thats a tricky one. Probably something she has picked up from another kid. What did you partner say to her?

  • Oh my god! I bet his heart sank! Wot a shock and what do u say to that!

  • What movie was your hubby watching ?

  • Would love to hear how you handled it and how it went

  • Have a chat with her and ask her where she heard it from

  • Did u ask her what she thinks sex is?

  • this is a bit off a worry. where would she hear something like that?

  • I’d ask her where she heard it (just in case!), who from and if she knows what that means.

Depending on what she says take it from there 🙂
