I suggested maybe a ds game if his into games or maybe something nice for his bed or a gift card so he can go pick something nice at the shops.

Board games, Lego, books, and anything Star Wars or Transformer go down well at 6 or 7 year old parties.

Pokemon cards are back in and would make a great gift.
