It would really depend on the kids and the family situation. My young niece is lucky and has a lot of toys etc so I try and buy “experiences” ie zoo or wildlife passes/tickets etc.. We have so much fun together and then afterwards will choose a toy from the giftshop sometimes as well.
I always buy them educational toys. I noticed they were never happy with books lol so educational toys were fun and good way to make them learn and play at the same
Time
I sometimes make stuff. I made some streamers out of ribbon once. I stitched together some felt planets another time. Otherwise I love all the wooden Montessori style toys out lately from all the local handmade shops.althoigh they can be pricey.
Lego is a good one
Slime. It works for both boys and girls and any age loves it. Boys especially love the farting ones and girls love glitter glitter and glitter. The other thing kids of most ages and bouncing balls. Whether they are glitter, or light up or both, kids can never have enough balls
I get my niece something educational (book, puzzle ect) something to wear (clothing) and something fun (try and go for something physical like a ball, sport set, or an age appropriate toy) I usually head to Kmart or big w to get it so that it works out cheaper.
always depends on age and interest. my older nephews love vouchers to their favourite shop or app so they can buy something themselves. the younger ones I get toys based on their current interests.
It depends on the age of the children. Maybe ask the Mum and Dad for suggestions. One year when I asked a single Mum she desperately needed some clothes for her baby son who had just had a growth spurt. I also gave him some books that his Mum could read to him. I remember one year my brother and I were given a fairly large set of wooden building blocks. I still have them. One year I was given a rubber stamp set in trays in a b ox. My brother and I spent hours stamping them on paper and colouring them in. The days of the old stamp pad that you inked.
I have 11 nieces and nephews so Christmas is not a fun time for me :/ When they were younger I would print of a heap of coloring in pages free of the internet, make 11 books and gift them with 5 pencils, stickers, a lolly, a small packet of twisties, pop top juice, yo-yo and $2 plus a cheap board game for the whole family. They were a huge hit and less the $70!
If you have photos of the kids with your and their families, you can make a Photo book which they can treasure and relive the memories of the happy times you have had together.
