Hello!

Just was wondering what peoples opinion’s were on the Woolworths and Aldi not selling Australian Day merchandise this year. So much backlash its ridiculous and Peter Dutton to tell people to not shop at Woolworths cause of this . Has the world gone officially mad. A bit of a over reaction don’t you think

  • I thought it was ridiculous of Woolworths to not sell Australia Day merchandise. The reasons they gave (not selling) were proved untruthful. Let the people choose if they want to celebrate, don’t force us to follow your beliefs

  • I am not loyal to any supermarket and feel they are only out to empty the customers hip pocket.

  • I shop at both but won’t by meat from Aldi unfortunately but I’d prefer Woolworths as there’s more variety and savings but I don’t prefer some snack options from Aldi

  • I shop at both but I prefer Woolworth’s has I get lots out of mt Woolworth rewards and great discounts. Aldi is great to keep the budget down but they are getting pricey as well.

  • I’m not bothered at all. AUs ay merchandise is tacky and a waste of money anyway. WIth the cost of living who really needs to buy plastic decorations?

  • It honestly doesn’t phase me and won’t impact how I shop.

  • i guess its the choice of the supermarket to choose what they sell- and if people follow peter durrons advice, then coles is gonna get a whole lot of new customers since they are selling australia day items. i personally dont care about the dates they are sold, id just like australian themed stuff to be available year round, why only celebrate on one day… and when i want a flag or aussie themed stuff for international sports events etc i can never find them in store regardless of the date!

  • I think it’s ridiculous. Supermarkets shouldn’t get involved in politics! I don’t believe they’re doing it dye to a downturn in sales over the last few years, have they thought that could be due to lockdowns, if a downturn has even happened. I’m so tired of these places picking what we, the general public, can and can’t should and shouldn’t buy. As for Peter Dutton saying ppl should stop shopping at Woolies and Aldi if theyre not happy with the decision……..that would be obvious to any customers that are that upset about it. Lots of us don’t have that choice tho. And politicians arguing this point whilst the supermarkets carry on over charging us to increase their profit margin ???? Yet another case of pollies deflecting from the big issues they’re not interested in changing

  • I think Peter Dutton has opened a Pandora’s Box by telling people not to shop at Woolworths because they’re not selling Australia Day merchandise! I would think he’d be telling people not to shop there because of them and Coles price gouging everyone and making huge profits off the backs of everyday people that are finding it extremely hard to make ends meet! Never mind about Australia Day! Dutton is just trying to make political points once again! If these politicians stood up to these companies that monopolise the market then something might happen. These companies are ripping everyone off from the paddock to the plate!! Dutton should put his indignity where his mouth is!!!

  • To think just a few years ago, we were all told what to do, where we could/couldn’t go, just a different twist on the current corporation spin. Woolworths happily push and sell Easter, Valentine’s Day, Christmas and many other occasions, it seems more like they want to pick and choose what the customer can/can’t have. I don’t like what these big business are doing. As for woolies saying there has been a downturn in the last few years, well considering we have been ‘locked down’, I will leave it there……………. Happy Australia Day

  • There are plenty of other places that sell this merchandise so it’s not really an issue. There are lots of products they don’t stock. It’s simply a business decision so why make an issue out of it.

  • I think it was more of a monetary issue for them as people are no longer buying the products and most end up on clearance in the weeks after. Dutton unfortunately is just going to make the abuse staff already receive worse.

  • Dutton is completely out of line. His comments just make people more hateful and feel righteous in that hate. It’s terribly sad and I feel for everyone who is offended and hurt by this division.

  • To be honest, I hadn’t noticed it until I heard Peter Dutton the other day. For my family, we didn’t really get into the Australia Day merchandise but i do agree, telling people not to shop somewhere is a bit ridiculous, people can do what they want and shop where they want, we don’t need politician’s expressing there views like Peter has been.

  • I think big part of this is due to declining demand and due to broader discussions about January 26 and what it means to different parts of the community

  • The graffiti on stores is appalling and shows a complete lack of maturity. Surely people can find mature ways to express their thoughts and opinions without vandalising property.

  • In previous years I have always seen the items on sale at reduced prices in stores as they appeared flooded with stock that was not purchased.

  • I personally don’t like when companies involve themselves in political matters. Let people decide whether or not to purchase something themselves without forcing their hand.
