Hello!

I’m just wondering when I can give my baby normal full cream milk?

  • From 6 months in food, such as in cereal, but from 12 months as a drink. Then you don’t need to use formula if they are drinking full cream milk. If they drink more than 500ml/day currently, you’ll still have to continue with formula as a max of 500ml is recommended for cows milk

  • It’s reccomend to start cows milk at 12 months old. Babies can find the proteins in cows milk difficult to digest before 12 months. But in saying that I’ve found it’s ok to use small amounts once solids are well established – such as a little for cereal, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes or veggies etc. but as a main milk drink it’s 12 months. And no skim until after 2 yrs old as bubs need all the nutrients of full cream until then.

  • Current recommendation is over one year – and low fat milk once they’re two.

  • i was told from approximately 12 months old

  • From over 12 months i believe it is safe :)

  • You should wait til your baby is one year old to introduce them to cows milk. Their body’s are not ready for it before then

  • I started to introduce small amounts of full cream milk for things when my kids were 6 months. Once they started to take it in small doses I slowly increased to full bottles/cups of milk.

  • I started mine at around 6 months of age. To begin with, give bub just a little one day and leave it for a few days to see if they have any kind of reaction to it. Then continue to slowly increase their intake

  • i am sure that they have to be one to have milk.

  • I think 12 months of age

  • Full cream milk with foods from 8 months, as a drink from 12 months

  • As a drink replacement not until after 1 but in foods we were told from 6 months but each person is different our youngest has a cows milk protein allergy so cant have it anyway

  • around a year if its to drink but in their foods and time from about 9 months, i used to put a little in their cereals.

  • My understanding is they should not be given undiluted cows milk until they are 12 months old – preferrably later. Prior to that if not breastfeeding, formula is recommended – the strength of it varies with age and the amount baby drinks. Another thing to consider is if your baby may have an allergic reaction to cows milk. e.g. vomitting, bowel issues, rashes. Some babies also suffer from bloating or colic. Yes older ones, even adults can suffer from colic. (I know that from personal experience – I had two bouts of it as an adult).

  • My kids got normal milk with their weetbix and other foods from nine months but to drink after 12 months but not every bottle.

  • I always thought 12 months was the standard age.

  • I’ve been told they can have in solids when started but to drink at 12months.

  • To drink, after 12 months. I tended to use bm or formula in their solids until that age too but mixing a little with solids after 9 months or so should be ok.

  • As some have said, from 12 months + is the recommended age. By that age babies stomachs should hopefully be able to manage the milk considering they would normally be weaned onto solids also. May daughter was given FCM from 12 months but only a bit at a time. It was mixed with her formula and then I gradually reduced the amount of formula until it she was drinking all milk. Gives their stomachs time to adjust.

  • to drink – from 12 months but I was told to slowly add it to their diet as I am still breastfeeding it was suggested to give 75% expressed breast milk and 25% cows milk, then progressively decrease the breast milk and increase the cows milk.
