Hello!

Can I ask a question…When did your child start crawling? My son is nearly 8 months and is still not crawling or worming or commando crawling. He very rarely rolls but absolutely loves sitting up. I worry he is behind as he has a cousin 5 days older who is already pulling up on furniture. As a FTM I am worried as everyone is comparing him to all his cousins and telling me there is something wrong.

  • I’d be focusing on what maternal health and professionals are saying. There are normal age ranges for milestones. My son did all the stuff quite early in comparison to others but it still fell within the “normal” age range.

  • You’ll go crazy if you listen to everyone’s ‘helpful’ criticism – because it’s not really advice. There’s no set time frame for a child to achieve things – just milestones and guidelines. If you are really concerned then speak with your clinic or doctor.

  • If you’re going to spend your life comparing your child to others, be ready for regular disappointments. Kids move and grow and learn all at their own pace. There’s no set guidelines

  • There’s nothing to worry about at this stage – every child is different. My little boy was around the same as yours when he started crawling. He started doing a worm type movement and was doing that for ages before he finally got the idea. Now he is taking his sweet time with walking. We think he is just a bit lazy as he will walk holding our hands or hanging onto things (cruising) he has just turned 16 months.
The best you can do is just try to encourage your little one by making things into a game- encourage him with his favourite toy and get down to his level and beckon to him.

  • Each baby is different. My first skipped crawling and walked at 10 months. I wouldn’t worry, they will eventually be curious enough to want to walk.

  • If he is sitting up , he maybe the type to just pull himself up and walk without going through the crawling stage. Pop him to the childhood clinic and discuss your concerns and stop the unneccesary worries others are giving you . They were the ones I asked questions about and helped me with my kids .

  • My first one crawled at around 7 months. Next one totally skipped crawling and walked at 10 months. They’re all individuals who do things in their own time, no pressure

  • Bub number one was 7 months. Bub number 2 skipped crawling altogether and walked at 10 months. They do things at their own pace, no point stressing or comparing cos they’ll still go at their own pace

  • Number 1 never crawled … but he walked early

  • don’t worry and if you are go speak to the health centre but the longer they take the better believe me haha

  • At 7 month

  • my baby is 7 months old and drags himself along, rocks on his knees. like a slug

  • Don’t panic, can take even longer sometimes!!

  • My kids didn’t start crawling until they were almost 1 year old.

  • My boy was about 9 months so was a little slow to crawl but started walking 2 months later

  • my son was 6 months my daughter was 8 months

  • When did he start crawling? I am wondering the same thing atm

  • My little boy started crawling at 9 months and now he is almost 1 and has started walking, i remember before he started crawling he was doing the army roll and i was concerned, being a first time mum i didnt know. but i believe each child starts at there own time all you need to do is play on the floor with him and make him try to get a fav toy or something and he will start in his own time.

  • My baby girl is nearly 9 months and has just started experimenting with crawling in the last week.

  • My little guy is almost 9 months and is showing no signs of crawling. He will do it in his own time.
