Hello!

I can be a bit of a hoarder. Recently I’ve been trying to declutter my life but I’m stuck when it comes to my jewellery. Now, obviously there are pieces I will keep for sentimental reasons, my grandmother’s costume pearl necklace, but how do you know when it’s time to weed out the rest? Do you apply the same rule as you do to clothes, if you haven’t worn it in 12 months it’s gone? I just have some awesome pieces that I don’t wear but I’m having a hard time giving up.

  • I’ve chucked out things that I really regret !

  • I don’t really have much jewellery as it’s not something I wear often but I do keep it until it’s broken. I don’t wear gold as I don’t like the yellow so once my jewellery breaks I don’t get it remade or anything.

  • Do remember that old jewellery can become trendy again. I also kept old stuff for the kids for dress ups and they loved it. Good thing is that jewellery doesn’t take up much space.

  • Jewellery is like photographs they hold memories. Just holding a piece or seeing it again can transport one back to a place in their journey. I’d hold onto them . Just buy a small jewellery box to store them in.

  • Store them away for another 12 then chuck em

  • There are always jewelry pieces from which you say it’s out of date and I won’t wear it anymore; those I do throw out or give to charity. But then there are pieces you like and may use again or with sentimental value; those are treasures to keep. I still have a charm necklace from when I was a kid, every BD I got a new charm, even though it’s about 50 years old it’s in fashion again now and has sentimental value to me :)
And other pieces I may give to the kids to use for dress ups :)

  • I don’t throw jewelry out much. It has often a sentimental value and besides that it doesn’t take much space. Sometimes jewelry is out of fashion and I don’t wear it much, but then suddenly after years of sitting in the box I start wearing it again. And some jewelry I have given to my kids, who were very happy to wear it.

  • I haven’t got much jewellery, most of it was a gift of some sort. 1 jewellery box, doesn’t take up much room, so I don’t bitter sorting it

  • Keep anything sentimental
And chuck anything that is broken and remember jewellers will buy anything gold at scrap prices and you can keep any diamonds or stones and repurpose them into a new piece of jewellery.

  • it depends on whether the jewellery is in good condition or not. I have lots of silver stuff and it tends to tarnish. Cleaning doesn’t always revive it.

  • If it has been given to me as a gift l wouldn’t throw it out!

  • If you haven’t worn it, its dated or its broken in some way get rid of it.

  • I wouldn’t worry too much about keeping it if you don’t wear it frequently. It stores well! maybe you could go half-way and declutter the space that you use for day-to-day storage, then bury the unused items a little deeper (or store somewhere totally different) . Then they wont get in the way, you’ll have a simple space and a little treasure box to rediscover one day!

  • I agree with the other comment that jewellery holds special memories.

  • Jewellery is a bit precious regardless of value and kept.

  • I never give up jewellery – it’s all got memories, and I tend to go through phases of wearing certain things anyway.
