Hello!

woolworths salads mom answers 9

I’m forever cutting up carrot and cucumber sticks! What age were your kids when they started eating proper salads rather than just separate salad veges on a plate?

  • My eldest 3 are excellent salad eaters although they have their preferences what goes in the salad, but so do I. My youngest is not keen on salad but will eat strips of capsicum and beetroot slices

  • About 3 years old. My kids loved salads and still do.

  • As the mother of a nearly 17 year old, it wasn’t until he was nearly 13 that he started eating whole salads. We started by introducing his favorite food together (potato salad with eggs and grilled salmon) and expanded from there.

  • You need to make sure you don’t give carrot sticks until they can chew them easily. They don’t soften quickly and can easily “get stuck” and even cause choking. Also babies don’t digest them properly too early (you will see the evidence in the nappy).

  • I started adding more raw foods to my son’s lunches and we slowly built it up to having a big salad every day. Growing fresh salad ingredients help to get them started if you can.

  • Probably around 7 they tried eat and loved it since

  • I am stick waiting for this to happen.

  • I’ve always offered the carrot stick cucumbers and cherry tomatos but till the day of today all kids want different things in their salad. I end up making 4 or 5 different salad or make the salad after their individual taste on their plate. My eldest is the best in eating salad (she’s 15yrs old) and my youngest is the worst and doesn’t eat it at all (she’s 6yrs old and had Down Syndrome)

  • I always made just one salad and the kids ate it, I never made special things for the kids and I guess the fact they helped me pick most things from the garden made it seem more OK too. Just keep trying, they will come around.

  • We love roasted veggies and they look more appealing

  • This hasnt happened for me yet

  • Not sure what age my kids were (they are currently 3 and 6) but I guess I just did it and let them pick out what they liked and leave what they didn’t. Been eating them for a few years. I’d say once they are properly able to eat solids

  • My miss 4 will eat a full salad,
But master 10 still refuses to have his salad ingredients touching!
I think it depends on the Child

  • I wonder the same thing! 4.5 year old not interested in salad as a whole yet. Tried lettuce in tacos and no luck

  • My 6 year old has just started taking a love for salad!
Dont make it boring! Theyre raw foods and i found my kids would just toss the lettuce ect, when my husband makes it he adds extra mayo, ranch ect and have a thin coat over all the salad, you can be sure the kids eat a larger portion without picking!
I would add things in the salad that the children love too, ive always put grapes in my salad, and as a kid it was my favourite!!
Keep it child friendly with more of the things they love :)

  • Bright and colourful salads in a big bowl can be so tempting and everyone gets to take some from the bowl.

  • We introduced mixed salads early on and no issues with eating salads.
