  • Just stop allowing him to feed. He’s not getting nutrition from it at his age, it’s a comfort or habit thing – and if it’s not working for you, it’s time to stop.

  • My son was 5 when he stopped in his own time, I had no problem with it.
    I always found kellymom.com a helpful site. Have a browse https://kellymom.com/ages/weaning/wean-how/weaning-techniques/

  • You just have to be strong and offer him a cup of cows milk . He will find it hard when he goes to school so start doing it now .

  • you just have to tell him no and distract him away from it. he is in a routine so it may be hard, but be firm. good luck

  • The idea of weaning and getting ready for school is a good one, if he’s getting ready to go to preschool next year try and even slowly wean week by week until he stops completely and reward him when he stops fully.

  • That is tough. Maybe just try and slowly ease him off.

  • thats a difficult situation… is there a particular time when bub wants to feed? mine wants to feed before bedtime..i’m already in process of breaking his habit … i’ll tell you what i do… i started off with skipping one BFeed and giving him a bottle. If he didnt take, i just walked him but didnt feed him on me..eventually he understood. Dont let him cry because if u feed him after he cries, he’ll form a habit of crying and wanting what he wants. be calm and do something else but be firm.

  • MOM81879 that is so not a helpful answer. Please don’t be judgemental!

I think you are just going to have to try and cut it down gradually. Maybe just do every other night then wean him off slowly. I fed my son until he was almost three and he still talks about it. He misses it alot.

  • This is a tough one to face. When my youngest was 19 months, I was ready to stop but she was already stubborn. What is his desire for wanting to feed? Is it for comfort, or habit, or fussy eater, or boredom? If you can identify why, it might be easier to find a distraction to take its place. For my daughter, it was for comfort and for habit to settle for bed, and while she had a new sipper cup, and toy for distraction, it eventually took my hubby to take her for 3 consecutive nights (I hid at the other end of the house) until she settled and broke the habit. If you feel like you want to stop, then its time. Maybe explaining that he needs to stop before starting school and if he stops for 3 days, you’ll buy him his first lunch box ready for school. (I use this with immunisation – OK kids, you need to have your “school” needles before you can start school, and after the doctor, we’ll buy your first school shoes”). Good luck.

  • Its hard but i agree that as you no longer want to continue, you just need to make the decision and stop. Maybe find other things to do to occupy and distract him at the time. Good luck!

  • you are the parent – you set the rules!! good luck

  • I think you may have to be brutal and cut him off. Offer him milk in a sippy cup or cup, but DON’T let him feed. He’ll give up soon enough.

  • Oh no, embarrassing. Why didn’t you stop years ago when he was too young to argue with you and insist on it
