Hello!

I had acne when I was teen but it wasn’t that bad. I’m now 27 yrs old and it’s becoming worse, especially around a certain time of the month!
I haven’t changed my diet or anything like that, so I don’t understand why this is happening. The only thing that has changed in my life is that I had a baby 7 months ago. Could this be why?

  • Yep. Your hormones have changed. Consider seeing a dermatologist for advice on a new skin care routine.

  • You probably have hormonal acne.
If you think you might have hormonally based acne, the best thing to do is to discuss it with your health care provider. Your OB-GYN might be as helpful (or more helpful) than your dermatologist. Check your birth control method to make sure it’s working for you and get any necessary testing done to check your hormonal balance.
If you get all of the tests done and nothing seems to be wrong, or if you don’t want to take hormonal birth control as a treatment for your skin, this is a good time to consult with an herbalist who can work alongside you and your doctor to support your body’s natural systems of detoxification and elimination. For many women a few tweaks to their lifestyle and some customized herbs to help support their livers and digestion are enough to create serious change.
In the meantime, eating lots of veggies (especially ones in the Brassica family like broccoli and cabbage), drinking plenty of water, and being very gentle with your skin will help to get you on the right track.
Hormonal acne is a great warning sign that’s showing you that your body needs some support and attention, but it’s not a curse. With the right tender care, your skin and hormones can find their way back to balance. Success !

  • I had Roaccutane to clear my acne at age 18. Had a baby at 23 and 26 and my acne returned. I always thought pregnancy affected this outbreak. After years of suffering again, I went back for another course of Roaccutane

  • I am in my mid 30s and still get acnes! It comes and goes at certain time of the month then disappear for a while and then come back. I just put it to the Lovely Hormones!

  • I do as well and last night use my daughter spot clear nutrimetics and today a lot better if you are interested in getting have a look at http://www.nutrimetics.com.au/tracybaker
My skin has been so much better since using this is why I joined up you can ask me questions and I will try an answer or will find out for you

  • This could most deffinately be the reason.

  • Skin does change as you get older and as I previously commented hormones too! I know someone who used a product prescribed by a doctor and it worked.

  • Yes i’m 43 and still get acne! Very frustrating!. i put it down to hormones mostly, as it gets bad for me, just prior to ‘that’ time of the month also. Recently I’ve tried using Arbonne’s cleanser, toner and moisturiser, and for me, so far so good, but i still cop a few flare ups pre-mentrually!! I have a nearly 5 year old, so perhaps having children does change things for our skin a little?? Wishing you good luck and clearer skin soon.x

  • I have had acne since a teenager, I have never found a product that has truly helped as there are so many contributing factors. Lemon juice helps dry pimples out and reduces the oilyness of skin. Hormones always play a huge part unfortunately. Wish you all the best.

  • Yep, pregnancy and the changes to our bodies afterward do strange things to us. Our hormones are all out of wack and stress levels can be elevated which can lead to breakouts such as what you are experiencing. Your immune system is probably low so vitamins may help. I would suggest seeing the doctor first though just to rule out anything else :)

  • I’ve been getting acne on and off since my first child almost 10 years ago. That’s the only thing I can think of that’s causing it for me; the different hormones. It’s definitely worse during PMS and with dairy products. I never had acne as a teenager so I guess I’m making up for it now! Haha

  • Hormones! Discuss this with your GP; they can recommend products and treatments.

  • 33 and I still get acne like a teenager to. Gotta love the hormones

  • also you could be subconciously touching this area and putting bacteria onto your skin and therefore more pimples. don’t touch your face and see if that helps. Make sure your make-up isn’t too old. If you use moisturiser maybe switch to a different brand. Even switch out your cleanser. If you are back into a workout routine, you could just be shedding toxins so make sure you eat clean and drink plenty of water. Sleep on your back and change your pillow case regularily as sweating into it and laying with most of your face smooshed into it, doesn’t let your skin breath etc

    just some ideas for you

  • I have PCOS, i get acne all the time! However, since eating more clean, and drinking more water – I have noticed my acne isn’t as bad.

  • Silly hormones… I would suggest you speak to your GP

  • Yes – hormonal changes of any kind can cause acne. Not fair is it? Talk to your doctor or a naturopath for some ways to help control it.

  • This happened to me. I had to changed my diet a little…cut out rich diary items. especially chocolates which I ate so much of at that time of the month. I also found that as my skin changed I had to switch my face cleanser too. I know use organic facial cleansers for sensitive skin.

  • You might have to go light on dairy food for a while or wait until baby is on formula. Hormones go wild when we are Mum’s. Could look at the Pill if you are back on it. Ramp up on the green veggies and try some juices and they can help with taking in extra vitamins naturally. Avocados and Salmon are great for your skin.
