Hello!

My nearly 6 year old falls over nearly every day! Sometimes she just gets a bruise other times gets a nasty scrape. She sometimes cries but not all the time. She has narrow ear canals so can get a build up of wax not sure if that would cause her to fall so often or if it’s just her being a kid. Any help appreciated thank you.

  • Everyone has earwax, but some people have more than others. If you have narrow canals and it builds up, it can block the ear and cause hearing problems as well as balance issues.
Ask your GP for a referral for ENT

  • I would be discussing this with a doctor. Maybe see an ENT.

  • hopefully this is fixed or resolved now. i hope that it was nothing major

  • It could be an inner ear problem affecting her balance

  • I agree with others, get her eye and ear checked.

  • I would get her ears checked as the vestibular system controls balance, and if her ear canals are narrow, it’s possible they become easily blocked – even without her noticing.

  • getting her eyes and ears checked is a good idea, I fell over as a child and hurt my big toe, and since then I sometimes have trouble with my balance.

  • is it at certain times also? i have a daughter 4 who is forever falling over something or her self, and its at its worst when shes tired, always when shes tired she has a bump, I find just noticing the signs and telling her to slow down etc. but also do get her checked in her ears and eyes just incase there is an underkying problem.

  • If the previous two answers don’t help, try putting her shoes on the wrong feet for a couple of weeks while she is at home so no kids laugh at her. It could alter the way she walks and make her more steady on her feet.

  • I was going to ask if you’ve had her ears checked, ears have a massive impact on balance. So her narrow canals could be having an impact

  • Poor little thing, that’s not fun falling over all the time. Might be a good idea to have her eyes checked. A friend’s child was always falling over and it turned out he could not see very well and needed glasses. Good luck for her.
