Hello!

Why is my 2 year old resisting to sleep? My little girl is 2 .5 years and is starting to resist sleep – she has a dummy, night light, and teddies, we do story time and songs but she cries at her door for half an hour to an hour… what do other mums suggest? Thanks!

  • I have to cuddle my 2 ye r old to sleep

  • Its just the age that pushing boundaries starts to become really fun. Just be patient and keep to a routine.

  • Maybe reassure her that you will only be next door watching her if she needs you . Perhaps she maybe an insecure type that needs a parent in her room . I had problems with my first one . but my son was very independent and loved his toy elephant . If it keeps on happening seek advice from a childhood nurse as they were a great help when my kids were born .

  • Presuming there was no problem earlier, So maybe just testing out for attention. You are doing all right things. I taped my voice reading a story and gave my son the book in bed too so he could follow story, the sound of my voice seemed to help.. Awful when kids cry, so give it a try

  • I think its a phase they all go through. mine keeps coming out. he usually plays up when he has had a day sleep. he offer more milk and he goes back

  • yeah it is the age. they become aware that they also don’t have to go to sleep

  • Sounds like a pretty normal 2 & 1/2 year old! unfortunately this is how they roll!

  • there are some good comments here

  • I find Miss 2 here needed to be worn out once she reached that age – more than before. Very difficult, I know. I agree with slight extension of bedtime too. It’s a stage – good luck :)

  • You could postpone bedtime perhaps? Little people go through different stages as they grow

  • How is she going now?

  • How did you go? :)

  • We went through a stage where we just let her cry and she would go to sleep and then she stopped doing it.

  • i hope all went well

  • Hope you have had some success with the advice below.

  • Hope you managed to find some ideas that have helped.

  • I hope that you found something that works for you

  • What did you end up doing?

  • In the end I think it is a phase-children have so many phases. I would just persist a bit longer with what you are doing.

  • I hope some advice down below has helped.
