Would you allow your child be mentored at School?

A few weeks ago I put up a post where it is my goal to mentor Year 8, 9 and 10 Children at school. I would like them to make positive decisions when they leave school. I have had my own businesses for around 30+ years. The previous 2 were successful, having to close due to personal reasons. Never owing a cent to anyone.

I currently run 3 businesses, we manage 2 holiday homes in North-East Tasmania on the coast, I have an online discount Shopping website, and I have just started a business in Multi Level Marketing, with the products being – Personal Development (Happiness), Travel and a combination of both in ‘Vacationars’.

In the town where I live, the kids leave school and get into trouble because they are so bored. There is an empty shop in town, opportunities are endless, instead of the current drugs, alcohol and parties. I want to try and help these children with possibly starting up their own business, what they can do, I will help them come up with ideas, I have completed 3 years of a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting and Finance, I am just starting a Diploma in Marketing Management. I have completed personal and business Tas files, BAS statements, and running a business from Home. So I know a few hints and tips.

It will be a one or two hour course, if allowed, I would like to spend 2 x 2 hourly courses for each year.

Please give as many comments as possible as I would like to use these comments to take to our local schools with a proposal.. I look forward to hearing from you, and reading your thoughts.

It sounds like a brilliant idea, helping local kids get a start in life. I hope you’ve managed to pull it off and it’s been successful

I think this is an excellent idea for those kids who have no life goals and feel a bit lost after school finishes. I would consider you fir my kids

A fantastic idea. Research has shown that if children and young adults have something to do and something to look forward to then it will greatly reduce them getting into trouble, breaking the law and help them become better people and better citizens. Good luck with your venture.

What a brilliant idea! If that came to my town, I know I would send my kids. Even if it was just to keep them off the street and stop the getting into trouble. Not sure it would be a life choice, but wonderful to have the opportunity

I suffer chronic pain and at the start of winter the pain is worse, so I am waiting for it to settle so I can put my case to the local schools.

I think that is a fantastic idea! Children need as many positive role models as they can get in their lives! Goodluck with the venture! I think it’s awesome!

sounds like a really great idea! What life is actually like outside of school is not taught in school – well it wasn’t when I was at school. Kids need to be prepared and have more than a career guidance officer (if available) to help them know what is available to them after school life. It would be great to see kids today finish school and achieving and working towards a great career than sitting around drinking and doing drugs!

WOW, thank you so much for your keen interest. I was lucky enough to have a career’s officer at my school, but instead of a High School, I was lucky enough to attend a ‘Technical School’. We had the basics of english, maths, science, chemistry, physics etc, or if you wanted to go a different way you could, I did woodwork, politics, economics, english, maths, biology, driving lessons, but for year 12, I knew I was going into Nursing the next year, so all I had to do was finish year 12, I didn’t have to pass, so I did English, Maths, Biology, Psychology. I was on the school council with the principal and teachers and local business owners, it was a fantastic school. We had exams at the end of years 10, 11 and 12 but we didn’t have the same pressure as the kids in the same years in the High School.

It was wonderful. I was one of the first drivers in a blue ‘Sunbird’, it had just been a brand new car, just released, and we were allowed to use one from the car yard. It was in the late ’70’s, and so much fun.

I think it’s a great idea as I know a lot of children who are currently seniors in high school and still have no idea what they want to do after leaving school. I think if children can having people talking/explaining real life concepts to them it will getting them thinking of their own futures. I wish you lots of luck and I hope you succeed
