I know you can reuse the tins at home but was wondering if there was a paid recycling scheme currently in NSW?

  • Its disappointing that all cans etc say SA, i would love to be able to get paid to recycle and i think more people would do it then too!

  • Recycling schemes are always a good idea.

  • I think SA is the only state that’s pays u to recycle

  • The only paid recycling is avail in SA on selected items like soft drink, juice & flavoured milk containers

  • I’m in Tasmania and we don’t get paid for recycling anything… a shame as it would reduce amount of wastage

  • I wonder if a daycare or kindergarten may be grateful to have them for storage. Maybe you could save some, glue the lids on and let the children use them as drums. I store little cars in one, farm and zoo animals in another one and pegs that are played with are kept separate in one too.
SA has had can and bottle recycling for a few years now. It was originally 5 cents each, then it was increased to 10 cents. We don’t see as many in the streets any more. There is also a fee on flavoured milk cartons and bottles + small fruit juice bottles.

  • Never heard of such a scheme anywhere, but interesting concept.

  • I don’t think so. Good idea, though.

  • You could try collecting them and taking them to a scrap metal place, but I doubt you’ll be paid very much at all.

  • Well, I don’t think there’s such scheme in NSW.
I do know that there are some community groups in Victoria that recycle all sorts of thing free of charge though.

  • I lived in NSW years ago and I’ve never heard of it. But I read that from next year you will be able to get money back for your recycling bottles and cans! http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/nsw-state-election-2015/nsw-premier-mike-baird-announces-2017-start-date-for-cash-for-cans-20150220-13k9gj.html
What a pity this plan didn’t exist when I lived there.

  • Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was?! What a great way to recycle and for parents to dispose of their empty formula tins as well as earn a little pocket money
