Hello!

Does anyone else have a child with a flat spot on the side of the head? Miss 2, has a flat spot on the left side, although her hair is growing when it’s up or in pics it does look a little strange. Will her hair thicken and cover it as she gets older? Total mum guilt over it, she was a tummy sleeper and hardly on her back, and it was noticed too late.

  • Have you spoken to the Doc about this??

  • Sounds like there is a bit of good advice on here. If in doubt, ask your GP or physio for specific information for your child

  • Don’t feel guilty over this. It’s not like you forced your daughter to sleep on that side. I’m sure it will right itself as she gets older but if you’re really worried then speak to your doctor or health care nurse.

  • They keep correcting until they are four so may still improve although it’s slow. Hair will definitely help cover it and just encourage sleeping on the other side for the next couple of years. The physiotherapist said most times without intervention they end up the same by four as they would have with intervention (although obviously not in some severe cases).
Don’t feel guilty though I realised too late that how I was holding bub to breastfeed changed the shape on one side. I’m hoping it’s correcting but hard to tell when you see it all the time.

  • Please don’t feel any guilt over this. As long as your child is healthy and happy that’s all that matters imo.

  • Mine has a flat heat on the back! She didn’t do much tummy time as she always sounded like she was struggling so I just let her lay on her back all the time. I’m not really sure if you can notice or not, I just thought when she gets more hair it won’t be as noticeable.

  • My kids have all been tummy sleepers and they haven’t had this problem. I would think she would grow out of it but I guess you could always ask your GP or child health nurse if you’re really concerned

  • Your hairdresser may be able to conceal it a bit by thinning her hair a little on her right side.
Unfortunately obviously turned her head to her left a lot more than to the right.
I have a niece who as a baby often used to sleep face down and basically on her knees a lot.
She looked really weird but if they tried to move her she would go back into that position anyway.
