saying no and getting her off the breast when she does bite, will help her learn and you will see her looking at you sometimes and she bites to test you. be firm and consistant.
Take her off for about 10-15 seconds every time, repeat this as often as she is biting you. Usually that works after a while, and if it doesnt you could try ringing the Australian Breastfeeding Associations helpline on – 1800 686 268. They should be able to give you more help if it continues.
Try popping some teething gel on her gums before feeding, it could be a issue of her gums hurting as the teeth are coming through completely, that has worked for some people i know.
There is NO need to wean onto the bottle, and it would probably do more harm than good.
Hope this helps! x
Take her off the breast immediately and in a firm loud voice say no, the shock and disappointment of being taken off will reinforce her that you don’t like that behaviour. Repeat this each time and I guarantee you that after three times the most, she will never bite you again.
I used to straight away take them off the nipple, sit them up and forcefully say “NO!!”…they would get such a shock that they would burst into tears. It only took a maximum of 3 times and they never did it again. This worked with all 3 of my kids.
Sometimes babies start to bite when they have finished sucking. Older babies are able to feed quite quickly and they may only need to suck for 5 minutes or less. If they are left on the breast they may start to nibble on the nipple rather than suck. If they bite at this time, you could detach them as soon as their sucking pattern changes.
My son did this to me at a similar age. I tried all of the suggestions from family and friends, but what worked for me was shock value. When he bit me I quickly picked him up and at the same time as saying NO! I sat him on the floor in front of me. He looked shattered. He only did it one more time, in which I reacted exactly the same and he realised that it was not a good thing to do. I only sat him there for a few minutes each time, just long enough to make an impact. Never did it again!
