I am at a loss of how to stop our grandson sucking on his thumb. I would appreciate any suggestions that worked for you children. Many thanks

  • Ask from your pharmacy. I brought a liquid called Manicare Bite No More from pharmacy few years ago. It actually use for nail biters. But it worked for my daughter.

  • My kids stopped dead, overnight, when a dentist told them it might cause them problems later. I was stunned at the self control, actually!

  • My eldest sucked her fingers till she was in kindy I think. Then we used that liquid to apply on and it stopped it by my daughter. Should have done it earlier as she had quite an overbite and had braces on an early age (from year 2 primary school). Her overbite was not all from the finger sucking though, there was far too little space in her mouth for her teeth and first step was roof expanding.

  • Oh my gosh my almost 3 year old too! But just for sleep. I’d love some tips too

  • Just put their thumb where it is disgusting for the child, without traumatising the child. My hubby put my child’s thumb up his nostril… my child was so grossed out he stopped…

  • I had two thumb suckers and the only thing that worked was a thumb guard, we used the T Guard aero guard with a small reward at the end of the 1st 24hrs and then another small reward after 1 week and a big reward after the recommended 30 days. We still had to reuse it with our son about 9 months later but only at night when he didn’t realise he was doing it.

  • There is some liquid you can buy from the chemist to paint on. As a kid I always sucked through the yucky taste anyway though.

  • I’ll be reading this thread because my four year old still does – not sure what else to try. Have used the nail polish, constantly reminded her…. please help!
