  • DARN why will my reply not show up. ?

  • Ok lets try the reply then as my posts have not been showing up. .So sorry for the double post.
Firstly I would suggest if your child is old enough to understand..tell him/her that he/she is a big boy/girl now and that dummies are for babies.
Secondly reduce the use: give the dummy only at bed time then every second night and so on till the need is no longer needed.
Wishing you the best of luck.

  • Will this reply answer show up now?

  • Honest answer – You probably can’t stop them wanting it. You may need to intentionally help them.
But one idea if you want them to give it up, try buying the smaller size (0-6months) so it’s less soothing and they may grow less interested over time

  • If your child is old enough to understand explain they are a big boy/girl now and dummies are only for babies.

Reduce the use: Only give at bed time then every second night and so on till it is stopped all together.
    Best of Luck.

  • If he is old enough to understand ..tell him it is time to give the dummy away as he is a big boy now and dummies are for babies.

Limit the use …tooo night time, then every second night and so on …then not at all.
    Wishing you luck.

  • Put something on it that tastes horrible?

  • my big kids got colds and couldn’t breath with the dummy so we got rid of it then.My youngest tow we have to limit it to bed times, it gets put up on the shelf and the youngest gets it for night sleeps only, taken away in the morning as soon as he is awake. He has had it longer than the other kids but it will be his last one too I hope!

  • If your child is old enough to understand you can explain it is time to stop using the dummy as dummies are for babies and he/she is a big boy/girl now.

Limit the use of the dummy , use only as a bed time comfort.
Then reduce the frequency from every night to every second and so on till you just don’t provide it at all.

Do hope you have success but please don’t stress …. I am sure they will not be starting school sucking on a dummy. Best of Luck.

  • How about putting something on it-like vegemate ? I heard that can do a trick…i
