Hello!

I try to cover the cost of the price per child at the party venue which is usually $30 to $40.
Does this seem fair? Does it also depend on age?

  • We usually try to spend what we think the parents spent per kid. It’s usually about 30-40

  • I generally stick to a limit of $30 for the child. That can usually buy something decent for a young child. I would even say $20 is fine depending on your budget needs. No one has a party for the presents so it shouldn’t really matter to them. I’d be happy that they came.

  • This is a perennial question. I spend $25 to $30, and my guess (from seeing what my kids receive) is that most parents are working on a similar budget.

  • I usually have a $30 limit, but most times between $20 and $30. For close/best friends I am happy to spend $50 or a little more.

  • That’s a very generous amount of money. I generally try to not spend more than about $20 – unless we are a bit closer to the kid. i.e. they have our child over regularly for playdates or sleepovers, etc.

  • I think it depends on a few factors. Age, venue/type of party, closeness of the relationship and also what they have given you. If they have gifted you a regift or something obviously from a cheap shop that definitely factors into the budget.

  • When it’s just for a classmate I spend $20 max, when it’s for a closer friend we’ve gone up to $50

  • Usually about $20-30 I think is reasonable. I wouldn’t expect any guests of my kids party to spend more than that. Having a party with friends is a choice the parents make. Parents also choose how much they are willing to spend on the party including per person. Prices of gifts shouldn’t be expected to cover costs of the party.

  • Definitely no more than 30 maybe 20, I mean they are young kids, plus we shouldn’t have to foot the bill for my child’s invitation.
    It’s $20 or nothing lol

  • In this current moment, the smaller the better as everyone is trying to make ends meet. It depends on age, how close you are to the family of the children and how to save money at the same time.

  • It all depends on the child’s age and how close they are to my child. If theyre good friends, I pay a little more then if theyre just classroom acquaintances

  • That is morr than l can afford!

  • After reading some of these comments I feel a bit cheap as I usually try and spend around $20. If they’re going to a venue, where I know roughly how much it’s going to cost per child, I try to buy something to cover that cost, or if the siblings are invited as well I’ll give extra to try and cover the cost of the extra child.
I like to buy things when I see them on clearance or marked down, so I’m not having to pay as much but it still looks decent and I got a massive collection of near new books from the op shop for a couple of dollars, so I put a couple of books with the present as well, so I don’t think it looks cheap.

  • I spend around the $20-$30. More likely to spend a little bit more if it’s a close friend. Most of the stuff they get is just rubbish anyway – the amount of things I had to hide from my daughter after her recent 7th birthday party… there is only so many lip balm, nail polish and jewelry making kits a kid needs… I then try and regift at the next party :)

  • I usually make a gift for my kids’ close friends. I sew dress up costumes, tee shirts, bags, drink bottle slings, reading pillows, wallets, whatever my kids choose for their friends. Sometimes we add a book or something as well. The cost per gift varies because of this so we don’t have a set amount we spend. I just spend what we can afford at the time and make sure it’s a thoughtful gift.

  • I used to spend $20-$25, but that was many years ago. I imagine with inflation now it would be $30+, but even a little more if it’s a really close friend.

  • I generally spend about $30.

  • We will usually spend between $20-30 for school friends, $50-100 for close friends and family

  • I usually spend $30. I also try to spend a extra if I know parents have paid more for the venue etc… I try to cover the cost.

  • I usually spend around $30. I think that’s enough.
