Hello!

Wondering about giving my kids small tasks to do at home. How old were your kids when they started doing chores? I am talking about small things like putting their plates in the sink after finishing their meals etc.

  • About 5. But i wouldnt push it as a routine

  • my son started when he was walking about 15months old…before he turned 2 is when i started to teach him to put his toys away….i was pregnant with my 2nd that time so it did help heaps…my son whos 9 now is pretty good at cleaning up, way better than his sister.

  • Around 3 as that is pre-school age and I think that’s when they really understand what they are doing and why . My daughter is 3 years older than his brother . When he was born she loved getting the nappies ,bottles etc for me . She started tidying toys etc. Then one day out of the blue she said
” mummy do it yourself ” then ran away . It doesn’t last long does it .

  • I think at two there is some tasks they can staart

  • Probably about 3 when I started getting my daughter to help with dishes etc, I found that she was more likely to help when she felt she helped with cooking, so I set aside some time specifically for me and her to cook. Now she is 9 she now loads and unloads the dishwasher twice a week, I have taught her to do the laundry (she only does this occasionally), she vacuums once a week and cleans windows and the bathroom occasionally. Her room on the other hand….

  • My Daughter was about two when I would ask her to take her dirty clothes to laundry basket or carry plate from table to kitchen (have to go with her to reach the sink).
