My six year old has declared she never wants to have babies, because it will hurt too much. I know she’ll probably grow out of this, but I don’t really want it at the back of her mind either. I’ve said the obvious things – eg the doctors can give you medicine so it doesn’t hurt very much – but is there anything else I should be saying?

  • Probably I would give just a honest answer, as you did. There are doctors, midwifes and nurses to help you and medicine to take away the pain. And that the joy over a child, not outweighs the temporary pain, affirming how happy you are with her as your daughter.

  • Always age appropriate answers to questions. At 6 I think she will soon forget about it and move onto another topic. Children are funny little creatures and when we tend too focus too much on a topic they keep it going. Just explain what you already have said once again and let it drop. I think she will be fine.

  • Where did she get the original idea from? I think what you’re saying is right for her age if she keeps talking about it as she gets older you can go into more detail but I think what you are currently saying is great a 6 year old.
