Hello!

My 4 year old daughter recently got eczema around her fingernails that came out of no where. How do you best manage it apart from prescribed steroids? Any recommended moisturisers or tips?

  • Personally I would ask a referral to see a dermatologist, or when you have seen a dermatologist already, ask for another consult

  • Moogoo is great for eczema and sensitive skin

  • A table spoon of coconut oil in the bath every night worked amazing on my 8 month old with Eczema

  • Eucerin worked best for my sons excema, it was the only ointment that cleared his up and was recommended to us by his Paed.

  • Use qv as a hand wash instead of soap or normal handwashes.

  • Eczema is usually related to gut health/food allergy so maybe try a good probiotic and keep a food diary to see if you can find out what’s triggering it. I find Moogoo has been really great for my kids though

  • QV or Dermaveen from the chemist works well. I also bought some Moo Goo which worked great too.

  • Oat baths, Hopes relief creams, and UV wash.

  • Thank you to everyone that has commented with their suggestions. I was able to get her in to see a dermatologist! So now we have a plan of action in managing it.

  • We used the prescription cream but make sure you are following instructions. Too much cream can be a problem as well as too little (often have to apply 3 times a day to settle it quickly rather than let it drag on just applying once a day) and there are alternatives if it doesn’t seem to work. The fact it’s just started from no where, and on the hand, suggests there could be a trigger from something she is touching? rather than something internal. For those with long term skin issues I’ve heard omega-3s are worth a try, and a diet that cuts gluten.reduces etc. but restricting at such an age probably needs professional help to eliminate diet triggers.

  • We’ve tried everything, and only prescription medications helped. Sorry.

  • My eldest granddaughter has had a flare up over the colder months with eczema & her skin has improved with E45 Itch Recovery cream I bought her at Chemistwarehouse.

  • Soak her hands in luke warm water for 5-10 minutes, then pat them dry. Put Vaseline on the effected area and then put her hands in some cotton gloves for around half an hour. Works wonders.

  • QV moisturiser and body wash is brilliant. Doesnt always cure it but definitely helps to control it

  • Could be pompholyx eczema. Instead of over the counter products I would go to the GP and have it properly looked at
