Hello!

Every male in my family is circumcised, every male in my husbands family is circumcised- so it was never really something we felt we needed to discuss when we found out we were having a boy. However after recently bringing this up at my mothers group I got hounded with negative comments, so when I got home I started researching into it and found soooooooooo many people are against it!! I didn’t know it was such a huge issue to other people because it’s so normal within my family. I would love to hear opinions from MOMs on your stance.

  • There is evidence for either side, go with what you think is better.

  • My partner is, our son isn’t. In the olden days it was deemed cleaner, in some religions it is preached to be necessary. In this civilised day and age, there is no reason for it, no excuse to inflict such pain on tiny babies

  • Have noticed a couple of comments suggesting getting it done as a baby is better as there’s more pain if you need it done as an adult. Are they kidding? Just because an adult can verbalise their pain and a baby can’t, doesn’t mean there’s no pain for the baby. The agony an adult speaks of should be considered when people think of circumcising a baby

  • It’s only natural to your family because it’s obviously ingrained in your beliefs and I would bet your religion. However, look at it medically and scientifically, it’s unecessary, causes bub a lot of pain and discomfort and if there’s an infection…..it can be one life threatening. Religion and tradition are no longer good enough reason s to cause so much pain to your tiny child

  • I have found the comments on this post very informative.

  • Some people may think this is barbaric etc but let me say this it is a lot more painful when young soldiers come back from the battlefields and have to be done then. I have nursed a lot of them after they have come back from war and it would have been a lot better for them if they were done as a baby. Some men are born as if they were circumcised. others boys have to be done as the foreskin will not retract and circumcision makes it so much easier hygienically. I assisted at a lot of circs as a midwife and the babies did not cry that much and were taken out to mum for a lovely feed straight after their little op and I NEVER SAW ANY COMPLICATIONS arise.

  • It’s really a personal choice made by parents. I didn’t have a boy, but if I had I wouldn’t have circumcised.

  • My hubby is circumcised. I’ve had no experience with it. We didn’t get our son done. I think it’s barbaric, painful and unnecessary

  • I personally have chosen not to. They say it is cleaner etc if they do but you just need to teach your child how to clean it etc, I went with not doing it because my husband wasn’t.

  • I personally would not do it unless it was for health reasons. I do understand why people get it done and have no objection, it is a personal choice.

  • Female circumcision isn’t a big deal in households that have done it for generations, doesn’t make it any more right. I think it’s barbaric and unecessary. There’s no way you can get me to believe a baby doesn’t feel pain. Although, my brother in law had to have one done when he was in his 30s and he wished he’d had it done as a tiny baby. Lol. I didn’t get my son done even though his dad is and my mother in law was all for it

  • It is a choice thing, however I do know of a friend who while having sex ripped the foreskin, thus having to be circumcised at a much older age, where the pain lingers

  • Personally I am against it as a cosmetic surgery. It’s putting your child through pain that’s not needed as well as potentional problems as an adult.. The only time I think it is fine is if it’s a medical reason.
My ex’s family wanted me to get my son done. And I refused I said if that’s something he wanted then he can make the decision when he is older as their is no medical reasons behind it.

  • I don’t like it. My husband and all males in his family are circumcised. I would not have done it to our little man if it was not for my husbands insistsnce. I don’t like it because I don’t think it’s necessary and if your born that way why change it. I understand it is cleaner.

  • yeah i don’t feel the need to put my innocent child through that
