I’ve just seen my second child off to kindergarten today and I have one child still at home. I have found that since moving to Newcastle from the Central Coast I have found it difficult to find things that are on and ways to connect with other mums as well as keeping my toddler entertained. What kinds of activities do you do with your toddlers during the week? What do you find really good to do with your toddler to keep them busy? How do you meet other mums? Any specific activities in the Newcastle area would be great.

  • Does the local library offer story time sessions for babies or toddlers?

  • I take my DD to the library, playground, playgroup, ballet lessons and shopping centre. Going out is the best way to meet other mums and your little one will be very happy doing so many things.

  • I have 2 kids in school so a lot of time is spent running around extra curricular for them but with my 2 yo we go to parks, have joined a playgroup, go to a mainly music class and do swimming lessons every week. We are not newcastle surrounds but often if you ask on the local buy swap and sell in your area they will be able to point you to toddler activities.

  • Are any playgrounds or play groups in your area ?

  • The local park where you may meet some other mums. The library offers parent and toddler time too another good way to meet other mums and babies. Maybe enrole into a baby gym class or local swimming classes and you may make some friends here too, good luck.

  • Often the local library has a free toddler/pre-school story time and activity on certain days of the week. I’m in Melbourne and all our local ones do this but not too sure about where you are. Worth a google :)

  • My daughter is 16 months old. She’s an only child so she plays a lot by herself but we play with shapes and blocks and cars. At home we do the jolly jumper and play with water/ swim in a shell pool. We’ve just started making play dough and playing with paints and stickers/ stamps etc.. We go for walks, play at the local parks. The local PCYC has play equipment for toddlers which is a sometimes thing for us. Sometimes we’ll watch “Super Simple Songs” or Peppa Pig on YouTube.

  • do a google search on mothers groups in your area. Your council is a great way to find what other mums around do.

  • I try and go out everyday! I don’t like to be stuck home all day. I have a 3 yr old boy. he would sit on the tablet all day if I let him watching you tube. he loves trains, cooking, trampoline. going to the park. theres, stickers, painting, cubby house building, hide and seek. gardening? water play!!

  • I take my daughter to the park, there’s always other kids and parents there. We feed ducks, go to a pool that has a special area for kids to run around in water features. At home we do arts and crafts, she helps me where she can in the kitchen, baking, putting some dishes away etc.

Not sure about Newcastle area though, sorry.
