With 3 children and another on the way, when is the best time to start my twins on toilet training? Before number 4 arrives? Or after?

  • I have 4 children and they were all very different. I ended up going with the theory ‘when they are ready’ and it worked best. You can tell when they are ready as they will tell you when they are about to poo or when they have done one, or when their nappy feels wet to them. My youngest, a boy (the other 3 are girls) was the easiest to train, he just said he wanted to go to the toilet (no potty at all) and only had 2 accidents in the whole time, and was dry at night. He was 11 months. One of my other daughters on the other hand was over 3!!

  • I started try my toddler at almost 2 she had no interest but then at 2 and a half she just wanted to go .She is now 3 and day and night trained . Each to there own rewards and encouragement is the best idea but every child is different.

  • I guess what ever you can manage! Would it be more disruptive to start them before bub comes and then get interrupted when bub comes along? Maybe give them a bit of time and when you feel like you’re on top of it all, or at least a bit more organised, then give it a go

  • sorry some words got left off that lol. i meant “DO they seem interested” lol
get them used to having the potty around and see how they go.

  • see what is right to them. don’t they seem interested. it would be ideal to have them ready before but you can’t rush them. let them go at their own pace.

  • I would say it depends on their age. Regression is common after a baby comes so if you do them before you need to be prepared for that. As they are twins, if you can get them trained before bub comes it might make it easier… Otherwise I would probably wait until new bub is a few months old and feeding is established and all that. It would really depend on how old they are and if they are showing readiness yet.
