Hello!

I was at a party and an older person shared a glass of wine with two little ones. I’m not related but I was so against this. Years ago beer was given to children to make them sleep. The mother was drunk and did not say anything at all.

Ask your question
  • I wouldn’t have liked it! Nor would I have liked the mum being drunk, who was responsible for these kids? Alcohol is so damaging, particularly to small children

  • No it is a stupid adult that would do this,so very wrong!

  • Umm I would lose it at them! It’s not their place it’s not their right. I would not be quiet that’s for sure

  • I would say something, I wouldn’t have been able to help myself. The mother being drunk would have added incentive for me to speak up too

  • I certainly would have had something nasty to say about that!

  • Wow a toddler? There is NO way I would let anyone not even her nana give my toddler wine. I also don’t think it’s right that the mum was drunk in front of the child but that’s just me personally

  • My dad used to make wine and often offered it to us kids. We always said no because it smelt so disgusting! Some people see no problem with a little here and there. But if you’re against your children having alcohol, say so. You are their mum and will always do what is best.

  • I would tell them off straight away, that just aint right

  • If the adults r drunk and not keeping tabs of the young kids sampling wine id be concerned too…

  • My MIL’s mum… So great gran; Gave My 6 month old Brandy!!!! He was teething … WT#

  • Oh dear! The mother was drunk, the nanna’s getting the next gen ready… ummm do you need to have these people in your life? They aren’t going to change and it makes me uncomfortable just reading it.

  • What was she thinking! Alcohol is damaging to little ones & you think a grandmother would know that!

  • I wouldn’t let them! I’m not totally against it but why would any grown adult let a toddler drink alcohol? Especially if it’s not your child!

  • There is also a duty of care for the adults present to act responsibly with alcohol in the presence of any minors.

  • i would have gone over and politely asked the nana is the children’s mother ok with you giving her kids alcohol to make her aware it is something you need to ask before you give to another child. You are then not accusing her or getting her back up but just pointing out that it is not appropriate. times have changed and you don’t want to cause a big scene but you need to make the nana think about what she is doing and know that it is not ok. Who else’s children is she giving it too and if the kids are at her house or she is babysitting is she supplying the kids with it regularly?? It leads to a much bigger question and duty of care.
