We implemented a pocket money system from age 4. Chores aside it’s a great way to teach kids about tangible money (particularly in an era of tap and pay…)
Our 2 and 4 year old unpack the dishwasher, put the dishes away. Take their dishes to the sink etc
They also put their clothes in the washing basket when they’re done with.
The little one enjoys vaccuuming so I let him have a go once I’m done, as well as wiping his own mess up. I figure I’ll take any help while they’re offering it.
My husband wanted to pay my 4 year old for unpacking the dishwasher, I didn’t really agree as I want them to contirbute to the running of the household, however we’ve agreed to trial it and then re-assses it. They get 50c each for a load.
I’d say as soon as they understand the value of money. Age 4 would probably still be a “make chores fun” stage. As soon as they know that $5 will buy a little toy and a lolly or something then introduce money.
