  • Semi final worthy

These meat pies were the perfect addition to have ready for the nrl semi final. They were tasty, quick and easy to cook and there were no complaints from the picky kids. It’s hard to get the portions and flavours right but I believe this cost effective option hit the mark.

  • Grand final ready

At $1 per pie I can’t complain! Cooks well & is tasty! We served with peas & chips also from the black & gold range. Perfect for watching the AFL 2025 Grand final!

  • Black and gold meat pies

This Black & Gold meat pies is a good value, all-round Aussie food staple! If you have been served with this meat pie without letting know it is a Black & Gold, people can be mistaken it is from one of the mainstream brand. The pastry top is flaky (depending how you cook it), and the content is not runny (see the photos as I cut up the pie in half after cooking).

I have tried to cook the Black & Gold meat pie in three different ways: microwave for three minutes (as per the pack’s instruction), cook in an air fryer for 20 minutes at 190C, and microwave heat for 1.5 minutes and then air fryer for 20 minutes at 180C. The taste and mouth-feel of the pie after microwave are quite decent, but it the pastry top might me a tad hard for which some people might not like it. Cooking meat pie on air fryer is probably the best way to cook at home nowadays. Put the frozen meat pie into the air fryer for 20 minutes on 20 minutes will be sufficient, although the content inside might not be the hottest. If you put the meat pie into the microwave oven for 1.5 minutes, before put into air fryer for 20 minutes under 180C heat give you the best – flaky top and being hot inside. Wrap the pie with Aluminium foil before pop into the air fryer would be recommended, as it would prevent the top getting too brown.

  • Quick, affordable and tasty meat pies

The IGA Black & Gold Meat Pies taste incredible and are made with 100% Australian beef. It’s quick and easy to prepare and takes only 3 minutes in the microwave to heat up from frozen. There are no artificial colours, flavours or msg and it is a great snack/mini meal to consume. The pastry is soft and enjoyable to eat and the pie is packed with minced beef, unlike other meat pies that I have tried where I find the pie a bit empty. Affordable and great value, I’ll definitely be buying IGA Black and Gold Meat Pies 6 Pack in the near future.

  • Meat Filling Lacked Taste

The Black & Gold meat pie had the perfect amount of meat filling, but unfortunately the meat filling lacked flavour. The meat tasted gelatinous and the gravy in the meat filling wasn’t rich and was quite bland. The pastry wasn’t the best either, lacking flakiness and flavour and almost had a doughy flavour even though it was cooked through.
