I have an 11 week old who I mix feed formula and breast milk.
She hasn’t done a poo for about 3 days.
I know breastfed bubs can go a few days without pooing but I thought being formula fed as we’ll she should of done one by now.
Just wanting to know how long babies can go with out pooing when mix fed?

  • Its best to ring the childhood nurse at the clinic as any concerns like this they can answer straight away and relieve any unnecessary worries. Apparently from what I was told is that breastmilk is more digestiable hence the baby go to the toilet more often . I would also check your child diet such as including a balance of fruit and vegies and fibre. My kids love bananas and I used bananas with cereal or porridge , weetbix etc first thing in the morning . It did the trick in making them regular , but every bodies are different so maybe just check it out if concerned .

  • I think as long as baby is happy and still having wet nappies i would personally wait till day 6 or 7 till i went and saw a doctor

  • I would go to the hospital, thats a very long time not too poo. I heard of a couple having child services called because they neglected to take their baby to hospital as it didnt poo a few days also (not that this is what your doing etc) just a scary story.

  • If she’s still happy & normal in her behaviour I wouldn’t worry. If her last poo was soft-she’s probably saving up a large one for you. When she’s actively straining trying giving her a warm bath .It’ll relax her tummy & she might do a poo in the bath but at least she’s gone.

  • I as well breastfed and and had the same problem but would normally poo within 3 days or 4 days and if not then we would call the nurse on call all go to the local gp. I also found that u can help them to do a poo buy rubbing their bellys anti clockwise or lay baby down on your lap and lift the legs up i found that them to things would help at times. :-)

  • Give it another day or so. As long as bub has wet nappies and is his/her normal self….don’t stress.

  • I always found formula was the one to clog them, some formulas are worse than others,I know they say they can go so many days without pooing but if she has any discomfort ,like tummy pains a few drops of infants friend may help

  • I mix feed also and I find it really seems to be the formula that blocks up my little one. All babies are different though so I really wouldn’t worry unless the baby poo is hard and formed when it does eventually come out or if it seems to be causing your baby pain. I would be so much happier if my bub just did a big once every day and then I wouldn’t have to worry about it. I hope I have been some help.
