Did anyone catch the story on ACA tonight(22/04) about the big brands taking legal action on a couple of small businesses with similar names?
I am a huge fan of Zarabumba(it helps that Neda is a Canberra mum just like me) and I can’t believe Zara are trying to take her to court! She has given in as she is only a small business and doesn’t have the time or money to take them on in the courts.
She has changed her name to Z and Co. and I would really appreciate if you would look it up on facebook and show her some love!!! Her clothing is amazing and she doesn’t deserve this.

  • It is terrible. The big guys with loads of money can afford to go to court and end up,forcing the little guys out of the market

  • If that was me I would have just changed the Z to and S and I’ve never heard of Zara before, now that I do I wouldn’t shop in their store if I ever came across one.

  • Any big companies that do that sort of thing deserve all they get. A lot of people take a stand with companies like that, and refuse to patronize them any more. The companies rely on the fact that smaller businesses don’t have the time, staff or money to fight them. As if a small business like that would be a threat to a national company.

  • Will definitely look her up! Definitely an unfair situation

  • it is amazing what some companies will class as a threat… it is a shame she had to change er business name

  • Sorry the bullies with more money always win

  • Sadly in this day and age, the big boys are so over the top about brand protection that they well and truly overreact. I mean, seriously, are we so dumb we are going to confuse a small business in Canberra with a huge international department store? Or a small cafe in gosford with a large chain restaurant? If by some chance someone did, is Zara’s really going to miss a few dollars worth of sales?

  • Isn’t that awful! Maybe she could change it to ZAHARA…? I really dislike big brand bullies, I will boycott them over these actions.

  • Thats horrible! only part of her name is the same…

  • I remember Target doing a similar thing a few years ago. I understand trade mark and copyright laws, but really, what’s the threat to these huge companies from tiny one-shop businesses?

  • I also saw this posted on Essential Baby so word is spreading!

  • Its sad when big business do this, but they must have found her a threat ( think of the positive) she has also now gotten a lot of exposure that she wouldn’t have been able to afford, so fingers crossed her business booms. it makes you think twice about shopping at the Big Brands.

  • I had actually become a fan of this page before all this. I was so disgusted to read about this when her name sounds nothing like or even sold the same things. It’s not on at all for me and I’m boycotting Zara and other ‘bullying’ companies. We are the people who make their money for them and the bottom line is, if we don’t buy their products then they don’t get the money.
