in regards to breast feeding I tried so hard I was eventually admitted to hospital with a serious case of mastitis and a 40 degree temp. I still expressed for a few months, having had the breast is best theory rammed down my throat. I was completely exhausted. My gran came over from Tassie when my son was a few months old for his baptism. She promptly told me that even though she was able to breast feed all 6 of her children it is not for everyone and I was destroying myself physically in trying. One of the best pieces of advice she has given me was “What is best for the mother is what is best for the baby”

  • Grans are the best… good old common sense!

    • I have regularly had to say to my grandma over the years “Ok, you were right Grandma, I should have listened to you.” I guess hindsight is a wonderful thing.

  • Wow so strong an answer and great advice from gran. I nearly died from milk fever on my sixth child. Bottle fed the first two then, breast fed the rest.

  • I totally agree! Some nurses make you feel like you’re disadvantaging your child if you don’t breastfeed. Not every mother can and babies that are bottle fed grow up and thrive too.

  • i felt so depressed breast feeding. My boobs always hurt my son wouldnt latch on properly and he wasnt getting enough. horrible experience for the both of us. My daughter was different she was happy to feed until she was one. every baby is different dont breast feed if you are feeling depressed about it or your baby is not getting enough milk.
