Ok mums not sure where I am supposed to air my disappointment but here will be a start. i have just received a email about doing a survey about golden crumpets and question 7 asked did I post about the crumpets on facebook , well I ticked no, as I do not have a facebook account and have NO intention on getting one. I proceeded on to question 8 which was about how many people I told on facebook, and as I do not have facebook I left this question blank but the survey would not let me proceed and only allowed me to enter I had facebook. I am getting very annoyed about the amount of companies using and expecting us ALL to have facebook and so many competitions are only run by facebook these days. I feel that this is discrimination and people should have the choice to choose if they wish to enter a comp by facebook or by other means. Just wondering if anyone else had a problem with the survey and if there are any mums out there that are NOT on facebook.

  • What annoys me is competitions advertised on Facebook….but you have to go to Instagram or Twitter. Why have it on Facebook if you have to enter somewhere else?! I don’t have and don’t intend to have Instagram or Twitter, not even fir the competitions :/

  • yeah it is annoying but these are the times

  • Have also noticed lately that there are more pininterest and twitter comps about.

  • It makes it tricky of you don’t want to have a Facebook account but want to participate in competitions etc based around them.

    Reply

  • The companies want you to share the comp with all your friends, that how they can afford to have prizes to give away, because we are being their marketers free of charge for them.

  • i don’t mind Facebook competitions, but don’t like pinterest ones

  • I opened up a Facebook account so that I could keep up with my kids. However over the last ten years, I have been told by people in business that I can’t have a passbook account at the bank, I have to process money by direct debit, I can’t enter a competition if I don’t have the internet or a mobile phone number and the children get their assignments from school on the internet, so I have no choice but to buy these items. Where is democracy?

    • Agree 100% Susan, and by the way your puppy just melted my heart, oh sooo cute.

  • I emailed mouthsofmums and I am now pleased to say the glitch in the survey has been fixed.

Although I am sorry to say fb is still needed for many competitions.

  • Quite a few competitions expect you to have twitter also which I refuse to get.

  • Thank you everyone I loved reading your comments, and are pleased to hear that some of you do not have facebook as well, also for those who do have a fb account it nice that you feel us none fb folk should have a choice.

  • I understand how you feel. I posted somewhere else on here about having a Facebook account for a very specific reason and what you have described is why I set up the account.

I came to realise that some competitions I wanted to enter were Facebook only or I had to like this and like that page as part of the conditions of entry, also a few sites that I wanted to join were only available if I had a Facebook account, so I set one up for those reasons only.

I don’t post pictures or engage in any Facebook nonsense, I’ve added a handful of people and don’t intend to add any more.

At this stage Facebook is a trial for me and I may well decide to delete it.

I agree with you, they should give us a choice.

  • It does look as if you should be able to say you aren’t on Facebook. I too resent the feeling that I’m forced to have Facebook by companies.

  • I was in exactly the same situation!!! I got to those questions and left them blank but then it wouldn’t let me proceed. I have no intention on using facebook. So many things ask for it, it’s annoying

  • What no Facebook? How do you tell everyone what you made for dinner? Or what’s the use of going to the gym if you can’t Check in and let everyone know your working out? Hey don’t cross to the dark side. Facebook is evil. Says me who just posted something on there.

  • I think with the way how society is, its is a fair to say that 90% of people that use the internet, also use social media. but there should also be an option for those who dont to answer honestly, and not have to lie to close the survey off.

    • I tend to agree. Whilst a lot of people using websites have Facebook, there should be an option for those who don’t. I think at the end of the day it is a fair statement to make that these things about posting on fb have to do with the company marketing their product.

      • I love the internet but don’t usually follow face book too much.
