I have a 3 yr old who is busting to do “preschool” “not daycare: however he loves his day care also, but he has recently had grommets inserted as recommend by his ENT as he has learnt to talk with fluid behind his ear so his speech and pronunciation is a little delayed i can understand most things just not sure if i should send if kids his age cannot understand him may tease or leave him out of play don’t know what to do at this stage he is on a waiting list if a day comes up but im thinking of not sending him until it improves thoughts appreciated.

  • I suggest you see your GP and they can refer you to a Speech Pathologist; they can help with these issues and offer support.

  • I have learnt having a child that is different that kids don’t care, they are lovely and won’t leave your son out.

  • I think if he is keen to go then send him, my son is 4 and at his kindy there is a child who has a cleft palate and his speech is quite hard to understand but nobody leaves him out or is horrible to him.
I think it helps that his mums is so open abut it and has taught her son to understand that people do find him hard to understand and that he has to slow down with his talking and not to get frustrated.

  • I would send him if he is keen to go, I am sure he will be fine , children have a great understanding of each other at times
