Hello!

I love Christmas and love to celebrate Christmas with my little family ( my husband and three children) and also with the greater family I just do not like the stress and troubles that the rest of the family bring at Christmas. I just wish that everyone could forget about trying to be in charge and the top dog for this time of year and just enjoy spending time together. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make extended family Christmas more relaxed. It is a time to be together and happy not stressed and upset.

I find that no matter how organised and prepared you are with the food and gifts etc your can never be prepared for the outcome. I always try to be so tolerant although last year it was me who could not handle my brother in law being rude to my children ( as my children are the little ones in the family with much older cousins). I can put up with so much but not someone swaring at my children.

Suggestions are very welcome I would looooove a peaceful Christmas!!

  • I wonder if it just a bad habit for the swearing part , maybe lightly approach him. One of my sister in law hates my mother and worried about her triggers that she chose not to attend Xmas this year so my brother brought his two kids on his own to our gathering and he accepted this very well. It is one of those things .

  • I don’t blame you; I would not tolerate someone swearing!

    • Time limit the amount of time you spend together; it may help?

  • So many personalities it can be very hard to manage.

  • We have the best Christmases without other people around us, it’s such a relaxing day – leading up to and including Christmas day, we do what we want when we want and have no dramas whatsoever, for many years now it’s just been us three at home, a lovely Christmas day lunch which we all decide on together, this year it’s seafood. Used to have family and friends for Christmas Day many years ago, pfft, they just suck the life out of me and take the peace out of the day.
