Yes it has caused quite a phenomenon around the world & certainly has gone viral. I can say that I was nominated by a work colleague & close friend to take up the Ice Bucket Challenge & I accepted it. I have personally known a few people affected by Motor Neuron Disease & its awful to see them slowly deteriorate.
MND affects a person’s ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. They literally choke on their own saliva & eventually their muscles become so weak that they stop breathing.
Luckily for me we’ve had a week of 20+ degree temperatures so I didn’t mind taking up the challenge. The only thing that concerned me about the challenge was I had just gone to the hairdresser & had my curly hair straightened. I don’t often wear my hair straight as its too much hassle to blow dry it that way & I don’t actually own a pair of straighteners. So knowing that my perfectly straight hair would get ruined I wore a shower cap. So if you see video of someone wearing a pink shower cap-that’ll be me.
Have any other MoM’s been game to take up the Ice Bucket Challenge?

  • I did see a lot if it on social media and I wondered how many of them were actually donating

  • A friend of mine did it a couple of years ago. She lives in northern Qld and hates the cold weather. She had a tub with her feet in cold water and had more than one bucket of ice and water tipped over her during an almost 24 hour period.

  • I have seen a lot of people do this challenge. And I do wonder how many actually did it and raised money? I think it was just the thing to do for a while, the reason behind it forgotten by most

  • I have been nominated but my hubby and i are disagreeing on how it works? If we have the water poured on us do we not have to donate or do we accept and donate and have the bucket of water poured on us could someone please confirm how its works lol ? and we were told we only had 24 hours lol?

    • The rules for The Ice Bucket Challenge
      Mandatory:
      1. Fill a bucket (or larger container) with water and ice
      2. Tip it over your head
      3. Challenge three other people to take the Ice Bucket Challenge within 48 hours
      4. If nominees don’t take the Ice Bucket Challenge within 48 hours they make a donation to an MND charity.

      I still made a donation.

  • No – although I think it’s been great to raise awareness, at a certain point it gets silly.

  • Good on you for taking up the challenge. Motor Neurone is a wicked disease and a horrible way to die. I think it’s great that you did it in a shower cap. The hairdresser isn’t cheap and I love to keep my hair the way they do it for a couple of days. I can never quite get it the same afterwards lol.
