I have a screaming 2 y.o who will not eat or sleep. not sure If he wants to let go of his daytime nap. But he won’t go down today. He slept for 2 hours at crèche yesterday. for the 3 days prior to that, no sleeps. went to the park for a few hours this morning to tire him out. But apparently not. This is not my first, so I do know what i’m doing. He’ll be exhausted later. He is screaming in his cot so I’m about to get him up. But I just need a break. The not eating is another issue, for another time.

  • I suggest you check the ingredients of the food you are giving him. Maybe he doesn’t like some of them and is letting you know about it. Is he teething? Are you able to look in his mouth to see if he has any red patches or while spots in his throat. He could have tonsillitis. Acute tonsillitis can also cuase nausea. At the age of 2 – 2 1/2 some reduce the number of days they sleep. You could try insisting alternate days or you may have an “impossible” child on your hands. Unfortunately they are individuals and what is successful with one child may not work with another. Very frustrating. Maybe ask the creche what he had eaten or what activities he had been doing before he went to sleep. That might be the trick. You could also be giving him the same food he has been given at creche that day. He may also eat more at creche during the day that he does at home and not want that much at night. (we found that with our two)

  • This doesn’t help, but speed dial 15 years from now…..he will sleep in so late after coming home late that you won’t see him all weekend!

    • Yes! I have a 16, 15 and 4 year old and when the youngest was a baby and the eldest a tween, i would have one asleep all day on weekends and one who wouldnt sleep!
