I really enjoyed watching “Before the Flood” a documentary on climate change made by the National Geographic, featuring Leonardo di Caprio, that streamed for free (before the US elections!). It is aimed at skeptics (since it doesn’t assume that you are ‘on board’ yet with the issues) but just presents a snapshot of where we are as a world – with ice melt, rising water, rainforests being chopped down, damaging emissions from cows (of all things!) that are raised for meat consumption and so on. It also explains the plight of the poor (eg India) who do not have electricity and the consequences of them getting it, along with America’s role in solving it. The technology is there for a clean world, stabilized atmosphere, with even the poor getting access to energy. It just needs the masses to get on board and tell their leaders what is needed. Having always taken the science on climate change with a pinch of salt this simple presentation showed a better route. I’m convinced that even if climate change data turns out to be wrong there is no harm in doing it different and everything in the world to be gained.
