Hello!

I often take my little one to our local library for story and craft time. On the whole, it’s usually a good time, except for when the craft supplies come out. Parents turn competitive, vying for the glitter pens, markers or glue pot. It’s crazy! Instead of the kids doing the craft project with a bit of guidance, the parents tend to take over trying to make it bigger and better than anyone else’s. I’ve learnt to take a step back, give the ‘older’ kids time to finish their craft and then let my littlies loose.

  • Thats horrid, that is not how our group works

  • How odd. That doesn’t happen at our library.

  • The selfishness some people exhibit saddens me. Our library holds story mornings. So many parents push forward so their child has the first opportunity to participate in activities when most of the children are more interested in socialising with other children, instead of being pushed into a chair to colour in. Some
Mothers take up copious amounts of seating with bags, strollers etc and walk around the room, so no one else can sit down.
Libraries are an amazing resource, I just wish some would consider the fact it is a public space and children are little people who thrive on choices.

  • Bit sad isn’t it… I do not understand the whole competitive side relating to children. Priorities are wrong in my opinion

  • It would be a good idea if they had stations and people took turns at that stations. This does help with people sharing and not using all of the resources. I can never understand when some people take all of the resources; maybe they get carried away with being creative! ;)
