Mess and more mess! - Real Mum story on MoM

I have 3 very boisterous and busy little boys. I had this wonderful idea to get ultra organised (something that I thought I was a pro at till the children arrived!) I went out to the cheap shop and bough 10 55lt plastic tubs I then painstakingly sorted out all their toys. All the broken toys got tossed and the rest were sorted into the containers and I wrote down what was in each container. Making sure their was a variety in each container. I then typed all the box contents up on an A4 piece of paper and stuck it on the side of the container. I Then removed all the boxes except for one and placed them neatly in the shed. The idea was that I would have 1 box in the house at a time which would limit the amount of mess they make and also to get them to enjoy their toys. I found that they get bored with their toys as they had access to all of them whereas if some were put away when they were pulled out it was like a new toy. So the idea was that when they got bored with that box I would swap it for another one that was stored in the shed. Well this worked well for a couple of months..TILL my husband let them into the shed and that are now all spread all over the place in the shed. SIGH.. the idea I felt was a great one but I guess with kids you have to expect the unexpected

Are the tubs coloured or see-through?? If they are clear maybe stick something on them to stop them being able to see what is in them. Having 3 children unless you have 3 age stage toys etc. in each tub the kids won’t take long to get bored if they are inside all the time. Maybe let them have 2 tubs at the same time unless you have 2 different types of activities in each one. If your husband lets the kids loose in the shed, he helps the kids clean up – not you. These are just suggestions. The decisions are yours.

It is such a great idea. Try it again and tell hubby to keep them out of the shed

That’s so funny that I read this today, after yelling at my daughter to clean-up all the toys she spread all over in the shed. She kept saying “but mum I want to play” until I said “that’s it I am going to bring in the rubbish bin to clean them”.

That was an excellent plan you came up with. Shame it was sabotaged so thoroughly. After a while, if you have the energy for it, give it another go but you keep the shed key!

KIds just love playing with cardboard boxes. I remember we bought so many presents for christmas when our son was 3, he didn’t want the toys just the boxes they came in.
