Hello!

I am an insomniac, I have had trouble sleeping for over 20 years. I can fall asleep at night as soon as my head hits the pillow but come 2.30am I am wide awake. I have tried it all, every herbal remedy available, I have done hypnotherapy and begged my Dr for something to help me. The Dr’s answer is that it’s been going on for so long we need to find the reason and sleeping pills won’t help.

It has now become my habit to get out of bed at 2.30 and watch TV with a snack. I am a sensible person and know this is not a good routine but before I know it I’ve eaten a bowl of chips or 1/2 pkt of biscuits. I go through the whole day eating healthy and in moderation but as soon as I’m awake in those early hours I’m in the pantry. I see the weight piling on and every one around me wonders how when I eat so little.

  • My sleeping patterns are exactly the same as yours and it drives me crazy. The only difference is, I don’t snack during the night. I don’t even get out of bed…..i just lay there for hours. The only thing that works for me is Temaze. It doesn’t make you feel drowsy in the morning and it isn’t addictive. Ask your doctor and give it at try. I only use it sometimes and it works better than getting up for a snack!

  • get outside into the sun and sleep with the curtains open so you can try to reset your body clock.

  • If you know you’re going to snack maybe be prepared with veggie sticks or flavoured rice crackers instead.

  • Sometimes I get out from bed early too, watching TV and drink a glass of milk.

  • I feel sorry for you. I need my 8 hours sleep. I noticed after drinking pepsi max late in the evening, seemed to keep me up or I would wake up at 2 in the morning and just lay there. I now do not drink or eat anything after 7pm. This certainly has helped me. Hope things are better for you.

  • You sound just like me and worst of all my 8yo daughter. 2 things I have been told, 1- Dont eat green apples of a night as they are high in ceffeine and 2- Try cherries. Apparently they are high in Melatonin which helps makes us sleepy. Good luck, Hope you find something that works.
