Hello!

I used to be healthy – not very toned, not too skinny just a nice size 12-14 and I was happy with that.

Fast forward from 2009 to 2014 and it’s not looking so great. I have had 3 babies and with each one after pregnancy it seems I’ve stacked it on. Fortunately after number 2 I went to weight watchers and got most of it off before the surprise of the lovely number 3. Today I have 13kg to lose and very little motivation to do it. I’m wondering what drove me to lose the weight after number 2 and where that drive has gone now…

“Hello? Motivation, where are you?” I ask. To which there is never a reply. Hopefully it’ll come back soon because I’m getting tired of the chaffing and lack of mobility.

You may think ‘oh but you’re so lucky, you’ve got your kids, stop being so selfish!’ And yes, you’re right I am lucky. But I also know that the weight isn’t ‘falling off running after 3 kids all day’ like I thought and it’s fair to say that sometimes my kids suffer because they have a mother who can’t play on the floor much or chase them anymore. I want to lose this weight for the sake of not only myself but my children but I find myself asking: how does one find the motivation to start?

  • The hardest and longest journey starts with the first step. Always remember calories IN calories OUT. Start by reducing whats going in and after shedding a few Kilos, the motivation may come back!

  • I’m going through something similar. I usually run 3-4 times a week and in the last 6 weeks it’s been maybe once or twice or week. Hanging in there but have no motivation.

  • Taking the kids swimming is an easy way to disguise the exercise part of it while you’re kids are having fun or taking them walking to the park or walking the dog over to a friends house. I try to also make things into exercise like mowing the yard or painting the house this way you are doing something useful while exercising and it didn’t seem like you actually had to make ‘time’ for exercising. Try to look at your diet and have smaller amounts, swap bread and pasta over to low gi or wholemeal and drink plenty of water. No gimmicks just good old fashioned truths.
